Alexander Zverev vs Joao Fonseca Tips, Prediction & Live Stream - Fonseca to push Zverev in Monte Carlo quarters
Alexander Zverev and Joao Fonseca face off in Fonseca’s first Masters 1000 quarter-final at the Monte Carlo event. Despite Fonseca’s lack of winning sets against top players, his impressive form suggests he could take a set from Zverev on clay. Zverev, however, consistently performs well against lower-ranked players in such situations and is slightly favored to win, potentially in a three-set match. The crucial elements are Fonseca's ability to challenge Zverev and push the match beyond 22.5 games.

Alexander Zverev vs Joao Fonseca Tips, Prediction & Live Stream
Joao Fonseca plays his first ever Masters 1000 quarter-final on Friday when he comes up against third seed Alexander Zverev.
This will be the third time in the space of a month that Fonseca has come up against a top three player after some impressive performances against Jannik Sinner at Indian Wells and Carlos Alcaraz in Miami. The 19-year-old failed to win a set in both of those encounters, but I think that changes when he locks horns with No. 3 Zverev on the clay of Monte Carlo.
Zverev is remarkably consistent and his record on clay against lower-ranked opponents has to be respected. But, at the same time, he remains vulnerable - he was down 2-5 to Cristian Garin in his Monte Carlo opener and also looked shaky closing out his next match over Zizou Bergs. Fonseca has the weapons to make him pay, so I think the Brazilian can take at least a set here and push this Over 22.5 total games.
However, while Fonseca will make the highlight reel with some electrifying winners, Zverev's superior consistency, experience in these situations and ability to win cheap points on serve means he's probably the slight favourite - good value on the German prevailing in three.

Zverev vs Fonseca Head To Head
This will be the first career meeting between the pair.
Alexander Zverev Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 17-5
- ATP Monte Carlo Record: 16-9
- Current Ranking: No. 3
- Career-High Ranking: No. 2 (2022)
It's been another solid season for Zverev - he's won 16 of his last 20 matches, with three of those defeats coming against either Sinner (twice) and Alcaraz.
It was Alcaraz that stopped Zverev in a thrilling five-set Australian Open semi-final, while Sinner eliminated the German at the semi-final stage of both Indian Wells and Miami.
Back on clay, it will almost certainly be Sinner waiting again in the semi-finals if Zverev makes his way past Fonseca here.
Zverev hasn't been entirely convincing to launch his clay court campaign - he was down a double break and 2-5 in the deciding set against Cristian Garin before finally prevailing 4-6 6-4 7-5.
Zverev also failed to serve out the match at 5-4 in the second set against Zizou Bergs in the R16 before closing it out at the second time of asking, 6-2 7-5.
Joao Fonseca Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 8-5
- ATP Monte Carlo Record: 3-0
- Current Ranking: No. 40
- Career-High Ranking: No. 24 (Nov 2025)
After lifting the ATP 500 title in Basel late last year, Fonseca looked primed to surge into the world’s top 20 during the opening stretch of 2026.
That trajectory was interrupted by a back injury, which curtailed his impact across the Australian summer and the Golden Swing.
However, he's now fully fit. Fonseca reached the fourth round at Indian Wells, pushing Jannik Sinner to a pair of tiebreaks before running into Carlos Alcaraz in the second round of Miami.
Making his Monte Carlo debut, the 19-year-old opened with a convincing 6-2, 6-3 win over Gabriel Diallo. He faced a sterner test in the next round, battling past the big-serving Arthur Rinderknech 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
Fonseca was dominant in the R16, overpowering Matteo Berrettini in the forehand to forehand exchanges - which is saying something against the Italian - to come away with a routine 6-3 6-3 triumph and advance into his maiden Masters 1000 quarter-final.
"It is super special. I was looking for this result for a long time," Fonseca said.
"Of course I want more. I am very confident and focused. I was very happy with the way I fought today. From the beginning, putting a lot of pressure. Playing huge return games and very good serve games. I was putting a lot of pressure and that helps you stay more calm during the match."
