Amazingly, Berrettini has only ever lost one completed match in Madrid - the Italian made the final all the way back in 2021 and didn't play the tournament again until 2025 due to injury, where he was forced to retire in the third round.

Unfortunately, injuries continue to hold Berrettini back from reclaiming his spot near the upper echelons of the rankings and he comes into this clash barely holding onto a top 100 ranking. However, it doesn't come as any surprise why Berrettini would enjoy the conditions in Madrid, where there's a bit of altitude and the ball flys through the air quickly, favouring big servers.

Prizmic is in some good form and is a bright young prospect, so I do find it tough to predict a winner here - which is why I'm leaning towards the overs and a tiebreak. Berrettini has seen a tiebreak in his last three Madrid matches, while Prizmic was involved in a 7-6 6-7 7-6 win in qualifying over Chris O'Connell. Backing a close match with 1+ tiebreak and Over 23.5 games.

It took perhaps a year or so longer than initially expected due to injuries, but Prizmic has made his top 100 breakthrough during the first quarter of 2026 and I'm backing him to push towards the top 50 over the next few months.

The 20-year-old is an extremely talented baseliner that I think will prove very tough to break down on clay and slow hardcourt over the course of his career.

All up, Prizmic has won 15 of his last 20 matches at all levels, most recently making the final of the strong Monza Challenger, where he went down to Raphael Collignon.

Prizmic improved his record in completed Masters 1000 matches to 5-0 in successfully qualifying for Madrid. The Croatian edged out Chris O'Connell 7-6(9) 6-7(5) 7-6(3) before easing past Zsombor Piros 6-3 6-2 to enter the main draw.

After making the Wimbledon final and hitting a career-high ranking of No. 6, Berrettini's career has taken a downward spiral due to injuries.

The Italian just can't seem to stay fully fit for more than a couple of months at a time and remains in danger of dropping out of the top 100.

Berrettini's best result by round so far in 2026 was a quarter-final run in Rio de Janeiro, but he did have a promising most recent tournament in Monte Carlo.

Indeed, the 30-year-old dropped a shocking double bagel on Daniil Medvedev in a 6-0 6-0 thrashing, but was no match in the R16 as he went down 6-3 6-2 to Joao Fonseca.

As mentioned, Berrettini made the final of Madrid back in 2021, going down to Alexander Zverev in three sets.
