Bublik has surged into the top 10 on the back of a spectacular last seven months on tour, with the once enigmatic and erratic Kazakh transforming into an unlikely beacon of consistency. A clear illustration of this is Bublik's 22-4 record in his last 26 matches against players ranked outside the top 50. After skipping Doha last week, Bublik should be refreshed and recharged for a good crack at the Dubai title after making he final here in 2024. Struff meanwhile has gone 0-4 in his last four Dubai main draw matches and only entered the field here as a lucky loser.

Struff on his day is supremely dangerous, but the German's best years appear behind him. He's lost 16 of his last 17 matches vs top 10 opponents and the 35-year-old has struggled with just two wins so far in 2026. At least one tiebreak wouldn't surprise me - just like their Rotterdam meeting earlier this month - but Bublik should prove too strong again.

Bublik completely transformed his game midway through 2025 and promptly won four titles, including beating Jannik Sinner on his way to the Halle silverware.

The Kazakh has picked up where he left off to start 2026, winning another title in Hong Kong that saw him break into the top 10 for the first time, defeating Lorenzo Musetti in the final.

A run to the fourth round of the Australian Open followed, but Bublik proved no match for Alex de Minaur, going down in straight sets.

Bublik made the semi-finals of Rotterdam earlier this month, but was again defeated in a one-sided affair by Felix Auger-Aliassime. The 28-year-old skipped Doha last week and will be hoping to return with a bang in Dubai, where he made the final in 2024.

It's been a lean last couple of years for Struff, who finds himself down at No. 80 in the world and clawing on to his place in the top 100.

The German is capable of some thunderous tennis, but it hasn't happened for him so far in 2026.

Outside of Davis Cup, Struff's only win on tour this season was against the out-of-form Hugo Gaston in Rotterdam.

Struff is fortunate to even be in the Dubai main draw after losing to Otto Virtanen in the final round of qualifying, but he's gained entry as a lucky loser - where he'll now be looking to snap a four-match losing run in first round matches at this tournament.
