Wellington Phoenix will host the Western Sydney Wanderers in a decisive A-League Round 25 clash at Sky Stadium. The Phoenix must win their remaining matches and require losses from Macarthur and Melbourne City to qualify for the finals. Despite being out of realistic contention, Phoenix will aim for a strong finish for their fans. The Wanderers, at the bottom of the table, could claim the wooden spoon if they fail to win their last two games. Wellington is favored to win, with their top scorer Ifeanyi Eze poised to make an impact.

Wellington Phoenix vs Western Sydney Wanderers Tips & Prediction

Wellington Phoenix will be aiming to keep their faint finals hopes alive when they play host to rock bottom Western Sydney Wanderers in A-League Round 25 at Sky Stadium on Saturday.

Phoenix are currently five points adrift of the top six and must win their last two games to have any chance of making the finals - but they also need to rely on Macarthur and Melbourne City losing their last two. Realistically, the Nix are out of contention, but they will still want to put on a show for their home fans to end the season.

Meanwhile, the Wanderers remain anchored to the bottom of the ladder and failure to win their last two games will see them pick up the wooden spoon in what has been a disastrous season. Western Sydney have lost their last two games to nil and have only won five of their 24 league games.

I will take Wellington to secure all three points at home, while BTTS - No seems good value considering the Wanderers have failed to score in their last two games, while that bet also covers us should Phoenix fail to fire. Ifeanyi Eze is the Nix's top scorer and found the back of the net in his last appearance vs Western Sydney, so backing the striker to add to his tally here.
  • Phoenix have won three of their last four games
  • Phoenix are unbeaten in eight of their last nine home games vs Wanderers, winning five
  • Wanderers have lost 13 of their 24 games this season
  • BTTS - No has landed in five of Phoenix's last seven games
  • BTTS - No has landed in the Wanderers' last two games
  • Ifeanyi Eze has scored nine goals this season & was on target vs Wanderers in R17

Wellington Phoenix vs WS Wanderers Head To Head

Phoenix are unbeaten in seven of the last nine meetings overall, with a 2-2 share of the spoils playing out in the previous meeting earlier this season.

Wellington Phoenix Form Analysis

Phoenix come into this clash with a 8-6-10 record for the season and down in eighth spot on the ladder.

The Nix were making a late dash for the finals following a run of three consecutive wins over Perth, Brisbane and Victory.

However, Wellington couldn't make it four wins on the spin, suffering a 2-0 defeat away to finals rivals Melbourne City last week.

That result leaves the Nix five points behind City in the race for a finals spot - they're mathematically still a chance, but need City and Macarthur to lose their last two games while they themselves pick up the maximum six points.

WS Wanderers Form Analysis

It's been a nightmare season for the Wanderers, who come into this clash anchored to the bottom of the ladder with a 5-6-13 record.

Western Sydney are almost certainly set for the dreaded wooden spoon - they would need to win their final two games and hope Brisbane and Perth don't pick up a point, while also overcoming a negative goal difference to those two sides.

The Wanderers are currently on a three-game losing streak, conceding nine goals in the process. Their season hit a new low last week as they suffered a derby defeat to rivals Sydney, going down 2-0 at home.

Verdict

Backing only one team to score, with the Nix picking up all three points at home.
