The Newcastle Jets head to AAMI Park for a crucial clash against Melbourne Victory, aiming for their first-ever minor premiership in the A-League. With a three-point lead at the top, a win would cement their status as the top team. Known for an impressive attacking style, the Jets have slowed down recently, making this match pivotal. Victory boasts inconsistency, winning only twice in their last six outings. With in-form Clayton Taylor close to full fitness, Newcastle appears well-placed to achieve a significant result.

Melbourne Victory vs Newcastle Jets Tips & Prediction

Newcastle Jets have the chance to win a first ever minor premiership when they go on the road to face Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park to launch the penultimate Round 25 of A-League on Friday night.

A win would see the Jets collect a club-first minor premiership after a dream season sees them hold a three-point lead over Auckland at the top of the table with two rounds remaining. Newcastle have been the best team to watch all season, with their young stars producing a magical brand of attacking football, scoring 49 goals in 24 games - nine more than the next-best side.

However, Newcastle have slowed down over the last month or so, with six of their last seven games going Under 3.5 goals, so with a lot on the line here, that's our best bet. Victory are arguably the best team in the competition at their best, but they remain inconsistent with just two wins from their last six - I'll take the Jets at near even money in the Double Chance market. Clayton Taylor has scored the equal-most goals for Newcastle this term and should be close to full fitness again after hamstring trouble - back the winger in for a ninth goal of the season.
  • Jets are unbeaten in 12 of their last 14 games
  • Jets have seen Under 3.5 goals in six of their last seven games
  • Victory have failed to win four of their last six games
  • Jets are unbeaten in six of the last seven meetings between the teams in all comps
  • Clayton Taylor has scored eight goals for Newcastle this season
  • Victory have drawn three of their last six games
  • Two of the last four meetings have resulted in a 1-1 draw

Melbourne Victory vs Newcastle Jets Head To Head

The Jets thumped Victory 5-2 back in Round 2, with injured star Alex Badolato scoring a memorable hat-trick.

Melbourne Victory Form Analysis

Victory come into this contest with a 10-6-8 record on the season and in fifth spot on the ladder.

While both are still mathematically possible, Victory are unlikely to break into the top two or miss out on the top six, with the club probably set for a finish anywhere between 3rd and 6th.

Arthur Diles' side have failed to pick up maximum points over the last fortnight against the Kiwi clubs.

Victory suffered a shock 1-0 loss at home to Wellington before an entertaining 2-2 draw across the ditch against Auckland.

Franco Lino and Nishan Velupillay got on the scoresheet for Victory, but they couldn't hold on as they conceded a late free-kick goal to share the spoils.

Squad will be announced on Thursday.

Newcastle Jets Form Analysis

The Jets head into this showdown with a 14-2-8 record on the season and holding a three-point lead at the top of the table over Auckland with two rounds remaining.

Newcastle can wrap up the minor premiership with all three points in this game, while a point could be enough depending on how Auckland fare against the Mariners later on in the weekend.

Mark Milligan's side have already secured qualification into next season's Asian Champions League Elite after last week's 1-1 draw with Adelaide at home.

The Jets left it late to earn a point, with Daniel Wilmering equalising with almost the last kick of the game in the 94th minute.
