New Zealand Warriors vs Wests Tigers, Round 19 2025 - Expert Prediction

The Warriors will get back to their winning form with a victory at home against the Wests Tigers in a tough Sunday afternoon contest.

Warriors vs Tigers Rd19 Cheat Sheet

New Zealand’s season is in the balance after losing Mitch Barnett a month ago and now losing star halfback Luke Metcalf for the rest of the season. The positive is that Tanah Boyd comes into the halves in some good NSW Cup form and will lead the attack.

The Warriors are expected to lean on their defence against a Tigers team that is gaining some confidence after their victory against the Roosters last weekend. What would have been a routine victory for New Zealand will now be a little tougher with their forced reshuffle.

I still expect a victory by the Warriors, however it will stay on the trend of a 1-12 that they have had over the last 5 years against the Tigers. Neither attack is predicted to be too flashy so leaning to the under 46.5 game total as the likely outcome is the right move with this game expected to be a bit stale at times.

Leka Halasima has been a regular point of attack for the Warriors this season with the second rower scoring 6 tries this season with half of those coming in the last 4 matches. Back the 19-year-old to continue his try scoring form against the Tigers.

The Warriors have won their last 8 matches against the Wests Tigers.
7 of the last 8 Warriors victories over the Tigers has been by a 1-12 margin.
Three of the last 4 Warriors matches at GoMedia Stadium have gone under the game total.
Leka Halasima has scored in 3 of last 4 games for New Zealand Warriors

Head to Head

The Warriors have beaten the Tigers in their last 8 matches, dating back to the 2020 season. Notably, 7 of those 8 victories have been by a 1-12 margin.

New Zealand beat Wests 26-24 in Campbelltown in Round 4 this season with a late penalty goal the difference.

4 of the last 7 matches between New Zealand and Wests have had a game total that has hit the under.

New Zealand Warriors Form Analysis

The Warriors season has been derailed with two consecutive losses while suffering some critical injuries with their unavailable list growing. The loss of Luke Metcalf is a huge one with the young half a real being a real shining light after filling the shoes of Shaun Johnson.

With Metcalf out and Tanah Boyd coming in, the attack of the Warriors is a little unknown. Boyd has been solid in NSW Cup with 16 try assists and 10 linebreak assists in 13 matches.

New Zealand are going to likely need to lean on their defence a little more, especially during the first few rounds with Boyd leading the ship. This can be positive with the Warriors defence ranked 6th in points conceded this season and only allowing 17 points per game at home.

New Zealand Warriors Team News

Tough news for the Warriors camp with star halfback Luke Metcalf being ruled out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury. Tanah Boyd will now take over in the No. 7.

Charnze Nicoll-Klockstad has also been ruled out with Taine Tuaupiki replacing him at the back.

Dallin Watene-Zelezniak has returned ahead of schedule with Ed Kosi missing out. Jackson Ford and Leka Halasima have moved into the starting side.

Wests Tigers Form Analysis

Wests got a miracle win in Round 18 with the Fainu brothers all bagging a try in their 30-28 victory over the Roosters last weekend. Leading 20-10 at half time Samuel Fainu claimed the family trifecta with a try right after halftime, Adam Doueihi added a couple of penalties to seal the win against an undermanned Roosters side.

The win broke a 6-game skid for the Tigers who are looking to avoid another Wooden Spoon this season. The win is a positive, however, Benji’s men will need to show more consistency if Tigers fans are to get excited again. A win against a heavily Origin affected Roosters squad is nothing to write home about.

The Tigers defence is still hit and miss this season, especially away from home where they average 28 points against per game. The Tigers are also ranked 14th in the NRL giving up 5.5 linebreaks per game.

Wests Tigers Team News

Jarome Luai will back up from Origin and take over the No. 6 from Adam Doueihi who will pop back into the centres with Luke Laulilii dropping out.

Api Koroisau will return after missing the last match with concussion. Tristan Hope will move to the bench and Charlie Murray is bumped out of the squad.
