Progressive three-year-old's, consistent provincial performers and several in-form stables shape a competitive card, with solid depth across the middle races and enough variety to give punters a clear read on emerging summer types.

Wyong Favourite - Race 2 No. 7 National News

Local trainer Kim Waugh knows this family extremely well, having prepared Newsfan, with National News being the first foal out of that city winner.

The yard also had Great News, a three-time stakes performer, along with a useful Linguee, and both mares are half-sisters to Newsfan.

A quiet July workout was followed by a spell, and the Wyong trial on November 10 showed clear improvement.

The filly controlled that hit-out from the front and recorded a soft win in the fastest 1000m heat of the morning.

Early support has been strong and she's now a commanding favourite.

Wyong Value Bet - Race 4 No. 8 Heraion

Hawkesbury trainer Jason Attard is operating an in-form stable, with six winners and five placings from his past 20 runners.

Heraion has had opportunities, but the overall profile is more consistent than it appears, particularly when the Heavy 10 failure first-up in August is forgiven.

Form from her last three outings reads well, with two winners emerging from the November 8 race where she struck trouble.

That narrow second on October 23 has also proven strong, with third, fourth and fifth home all winning their next starts.

She profiles as the value runner.

Gosford Air Class 1 Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Wyong Best Bet - Race 5 No. 2 Columbia Blue

Columbia Blue resumes following a debut preparation that returned two seconds and a maiden win from three starts.

The Hawkesbury breakthrough came against a field that included Harry’s Evidence, and that galloper later ran Hillier to a close margin during the Melbourne Spring Carnival, adding depth to the form.

A runner-up finish in a Randwick-Kensington BM64 followed, after which the gelding was tipped out for a break.

The form around that race has held up, highlighted by Prima Bella, who improved sharply to win her next two starts, including a metro BM72.

Two solid trials suggest he’s ready to fire fresh.

Wyong Roughie - Race 6 No. 6 Shambretta

Shambretta represents the local Kim Waugh stable and returns to a more suitable set-up after failing to figure on good ground so far.

That concern was eased somewhat first-up at Newcastle, where it was hardly testing as a Soft 5 and the gelding was able to capitalise, defying a big betting drift to score.

A luckless run followed at Wyong, where early interference and a wide draw left him in an impossible position.

Earlier form this year was sound, with the only genuine flop coming second-up in March before rebounding with a fourth and two thirds over this trip.

A friendlier barrier gives him blowout claims.
