The Sydney Roosters are clear favourites ahead of their Round 17 2026 clash with the struggling Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium. The Broncos are in a six-game losing streak, conceding 218 points and averaging only 14.2 points per game. Key players like Adam Reynolds and Ezra Mam remain out, while the Roosters boast dominance in recent head-to-head matchups and have not lost to the Broncos at Suncorp since 2019. Expert tipsters recommend betting on the Roosters with a -6.5 line and a 13+ margin, and player props for James Tedesco and Sam Walker to score tries.

Brisbane Broncos vs Sydney Roosters, Round 17 2026 - Expert Prediction

The Roosters are backed to cover -6.5 at Suncorp Stadium, with the 13+ margin also in play against a Brisbane side stuck in a six-game losing streak.

Brisbane get some big names back, but Adam Reynolds and Ezra Mam are still out and this has become a side that is leaking points in bunches. The Broncos have conceded 218 points across six straight losses and four of those defeats have come by 13+.

The Sydney Roosters have won nine of their last 12 games against Brisbane and the Broncos have not beaten them at Suncorp Stadium since 2019. That head-to-head dominance matters when the current Broncos are scoring just 14.2 points per game across their last five and conceding 36.0.

The Brisbane Broncos do regain Reece Walsh, Kotoni Staggs and Payne Haas, which at least gives them more star power than they have had in recent weeks. The issue is the spine reshuffle, with Ben Hunt at halfback and Thomas Duffy at five-eighth while Reynolds and Mam watch on.

James Tedesco plays his 200th game for the Roosters and is the obvious anytime tryscorer angle. Brisbane have also allowed a try to an opposing half or five-eighth in seven straight games, including one each to Daly Cherry-Evans and Sam Walker in Round 9, so Walker anytime is firmly in the mix.

Take the Roosters -6.5 and Roosters 13+. Tedesco anytime and Sam Walker anytime are the player prop plays.

  • Brisbane have lost six straight games and conceded 218 points in that run.
  • The Roosters have won nine of their last 12 games against the Broncos.
  • Brisbane have not beaten the Roosters at Suncorp Stadium since 2019.
  • James Tedesco plays his 200th game for the Roosters.

Head to Head Stats

The Roosters have controlled this matchup, winning four of the last five meetings and nine of the last 12 overall. Four of Brisbane's last five losses to the Roosters have been by double digits, including the 38-24 defeat in Round 9.

Brisbane Broncos Form Analysis

Brisbane are in freefall. Across their last five games they have lost by 28, 30, 4, 5 and 42 points, while averaging only 14.2 points scored and 36.0 conceded.

Walsh, Staggs and Haas returning gives them a better side on paper, but the halves issue is not small. Reynolds is out with a hamstring injury, Mam is out with a shoulder injury and Hunt has to run the side from halfback in a game where Brisbane need points quickly.

There is still enough talent for Brisbane to challenge for periods, especially through Walsh and Staggs on home turf. The problem is sustaining it for 80 minutes, and that has been the exact issue throughout this losing streak.

Sydney Roosters Form Analysis

The Roosters have been inconsistent since beating Brisbane in Round 9, but they remain fourth and this is a matchup they have handled repeatedly. Their forward pack should fancy this against a Broncos side ranked 17th in run metres and 16th defending run metres.

Hugo Savala returns from concussion, James Tedesco is set to play despite a broken nose and the halves pairing of Daly Cherry-Evans and Sam Walker gives the Roosters plenty of attacking class. If they get field position, the Broncos' edge defence is there to be exposed.
