Japan meet Sweden in a crucial World Cup Group F encounter at AT&T Stadium. Japan enter the match as clear favorites, boasting a nine-game unbeaten run and a string of impressive results. Their dynamic attack, led by Ayase Ueda, will challenge a Swedish side that's been inconsistent but has individual threats like Yasin Ayari. Japan are backed for a win and a high-scoring game (over 2.5 goals), likely securing top group spot. Watch live with details provided via Bet365 (geo-restrictions apply).

Japan vs Sweden World Cup Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

One of the most impressive sides so far at the World Cup, Japan will be looking to secure top spot in Group F when they take on an erratic Sweden team on Thursday at AT&T Stadium.

One of my World Cup dark horses ahead of the tournament, Japan have been absolutely brilliant to watch as they come into this clash following an entertaining 2-2 draw with the Netherlands and crushing 4-0 victory over Tunisia, where star striker Ayase Ueda scored a brace and provided one of the most skillful assists you'll ever see.

With wins over Spain and Germany at the last World Cup and friendly triumphs over the likes of Brazil and England in the lead-up to this tournament, the rest of the world is starting to see what football fans across Asia already knew: Japan are a serious contender to go very deep into this competition.

Sweden meanwhile have endured a rollercoaster World Cup, much like their journey to secure a ticket to North America through qualifying, thumping Tunisia 5-1 before being on the receiving end of the same scoreline against Netherlands, leaving them in third spot but still in contention for a top two finish if they can defy the odds here.

However, I don't see it happening. Japan are on a nine-game unbeaten run and they are just levels above most nations right now. I think there will lots of goals here, while Eredivisie Golden Boot winner Ueda looks good to find the back of the net again. Brighton midfielder Yasin Ayari has been impressive for Sweden and loves a crack from long range - I'll back him in for another shot on target.
  • Japan are on a nine-game unbeaten streak, winning seven
  • Japan have seen exactly four goals in both World Cup games this tournament
  • Japan are unbeaten in their last four World Cup games vs European nations
  • Sweden have seen 4+ goals in their last six games
  • Ayase Ueda scored twice vs Tunisia & had 25 goals in 31 league games for Feyenoord this season
  • Yasin Ayari has registered three shots on target in his two games this tournament, scoring a thunderbolt vs Tunisia

Japan vs Sweden Head To Head

Sweden are unbeaten in the last four meetings between the nations, but the last clash was in 2002.

Japan Form Analysis

Japan are virtually assured of reaching the knockout phase of the World Cup for the third straight occasion following a quality 2-2 draw with Netherlands and superb 4-0 dispatch of Tunisia.

Samarai Blue twice came from behind to earn a point with Netherlands, with Crystal Palace midfielder Daichi Kamada equalising in the 89th minute.

Hajime Moriyasu's side then went ballistic in a stunning performance against Tunisia, becoming the first Asian nation to score four goals in a World Cup game. Kamada was on target again, while Ueda bagged himself a brace and assisted for Junya Ito.

Japan Team News

Takefusa Kubo is nursing a knee injury sustained against Netherlands and might miss this game, while Shuto Machino is yet to feature at the tournament due to illness.

Sweden Form Analysis

Sweden were fortunate to even qualify for the World Cup after finishing bottom of their group, but getting in via the playoffs due to their Nations League performances.

Graham Potter's side made good use of their fortunes by crushing Tunisia 5-1 in their World Cup opener, with Yasin Ayari scoring a double, while heavyweight strikers Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak also got on the scoresheet.

However, their positive goal difference came undone against the Netherlands as Sweden fell to a crushing 5-1 defeat. Anthony Elanga provided a bright spark and scored his side's only goal of the game.

A point here should see Sweden through, but a loss would leave them with a nervous wait to see if they are on of the eight-best third-ranked teams.

Sweden Team News

No injury concerns for Sweden ahead of this game.

Elanga and Lucas Bergvall look a chance to come into the starting side.
