Ecuador vs Germany World Cup Tips, Prediction & Live Stream - Ecuador gunning for upset & knockout phase

Ecuador faces a must-win World Cup clash against Germany, who have already secured top spot in Group E and will likely rotate their lineup. Ecuador has shown strong defensive form but limited attacking output, often resulting in low-scoring games. With nothing at stake for Germany, Ecuador is tipped to pull off an upset, especially with under 2.5 goals expected. Moises Caicedo offers value as a potential goalscorer. The recommendation is to back Ecuador for the upset and focus on a low-scoring encounter.

Ecuador vs Germany World Cup Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

It's a must-win game for Ecuador when they take on already-qualified Germany in Group E action at the World Cup at MetLife Stadium on Thursday.

After a thumping 7-1 win over Curacao and last-minute 2-1 triumph over Ivory Coast, Germany have already wrapped up top spot in Group E and are expected to field a heavily rotated side here.

As a result, Ecuador should fancy their chances at the upset in a game they must win in order to make it to the knockout phase. Ecuador arrived at this World Cup on a 19-game unbeaten streak and have played largely as expected - rock solid defensively and not offering too much up front. La Tri have been unlucky - they leaked a last-minute goal against Ivory Coast and couldn't capitalise on 27 shots against Curacao, forcing the goalkeeper into a World Cup record 15 saves.

I have no interest backing Germany given their situation, so will take Ecuador for the upset in a game that features Under 2.5 goals, which is a staple in the South American nation's fixtures.

Moises Caicedo is a sneaky value bet for a goal too. The Chelsea midfielder is Ecuador's best player and Germany have already conceded two goals this tournament to defensive/central midfielders. I'll take Caicedo for a shot on goal and $13 is on offer for a goal.
  • Ecuador have seen Under 2.5 goals in 13 of their last 15 games
  • Ecuador are unbeaten in 20 of their last 21 games
  • Moises Caicedo has had 1+ shots in both World Cup games this tournament
  • Caicedo had 1+ shots in five of his last eight games for Chelsea this season

Ecuador vs Germany Head To Head

Germany have won both previous meetings, including a 3-0 victory on home soil at the 2006 World Cup group stage and 4-2 triumph in a 2013 friendly.

Ecuador Form Analysis

Ecuador are making their fifth appearance at the World Cup and are in danger of a fourth group stage exit after two heartbreaking results.

La Tri conceded a late goal to fall 1-0 to Ivory Coast in their opening game. It was a match of missed opportunities, with Ecuador striking the woodwork on three occasions.

Sebastian Beccacece's side were then held to a 0-0 stalemate with Curacao, despite firing 27 shots in anger. with goalkeeper Eloy Room making a whopping 15 saves.

While unlucky, it's clear Ecuador have a problem in attack - this was their ninth 0-0 draw since July 2024, with too much reliance on Enner Valencia.

Ecuador Team News

No injury concerns for Ecuador ahead of this clash.

Valencia is one goal shy of notching up 50 for his country and remains the team's most likely threat up front.

Arsenal's Piero Hincapie and PSG's Willian Pacho headline a strong defensive line.

Germany Form Analysis

I still think it's fair to say this German side is well down on the quality they've taken to previous World Cups, but at the end of the day, they've won 11 straight matches and secured their spot in the knockout phase with a game to spare. Can't argue with that.

Die Mannschaft were thumping 7-1 winners over Curacao in their opening game, setting themselves up for a dominant Group E showing as Kai Havertz scored a brace.

Germany left it late against Ivory Coast and were forced to come from behind, but super sub Deniz Undav secured a match-winning brace to go with his two assists off the bench against Curacao.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side have topped Group E as a result and will have one eye on the R32 here.

Germany Team News

Nico Schlotterbeck has been ruled out of the World Cup with injury. Antonio Rudiger, Waldemar Anton and Malick Thiaw are all in line to replace him at centre back.

Naglesmann is expected to make several changes, with Undav a good chance to start this game, while Jamie Leweling and Maximilian Beier could also feature.

Verdict

Ecuador look good value for the upset against what should be a rotated German side. Under 2.5 goals is the main play, with Caicedo a sneaky shot for a goal in a La Tri side with limited options up front.
