All five of the filly’s starts have come at this venue, with her two best results arriving in each of her last two appearances.

The daughter of Wordsmith has finished runner-up on both occasions, including when beaten a length over 1220m on her penultimate outing.

She raced on a good 4 track that day when attempting to make all before being overhauled late in a contest that has since produced two subsequent Hobart winners.

The filly herself backed that up when beaten just under a length after being ridden with more restraint on another good 4 track over 1200m here two weeks ago.

Trainer Stuart Gandy noted that the ground was firmer than ideal last time, and with a soft 5 predicted, the filly is taken to break her maiden.

Launceston Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 6 Don Turboas

Don Turboas looked sharp when winning his only barrier trial over 800m in August, putting more than two lengths on his rivals under David Pires.

Pires, who partnered the gelding in both career starts to date, retains the ride as the gelding continues his progression.

The son of Spieth debuted on the Devonport synthetic in September and finished runner-up to a more seasoned rival over 1150m.

He then started favourite when making his turf debut in a 1200m race at Hobart, racing in fourth throughout before finishing third and beaten less than half-a-length on a soft 6 surface.

Freshened since and drawn well in barrier five, he looks well placed stepping up in trip to break through for his maiden success.

Stroak Of Art gained valuable education in trials before making an impressive debut when scoring comfortably on the Devonport synthetic in September.

He put three lengths on his rivals that day from a favourable low draw and looked a progressive type in doing so.

While unable to win in two subsequent Class 1 handicap outings, he has produced solid efforts in defeat on both occasions.

His latest run saw him finish well from off the speed when beaten just under two-and-a-half lengths over 1200m on a good 4 track.

Making his turf debut there, he is expected to appreciate both the wet conditions and the extra distance, and from an inside barrier he appeals at value.

Launceston Roughie - Race 7 No. 5 Captain Morgan

Captain Morgan is a six-time winner, with two of those victories coming at this distance, including a Benchmark 68 success at Hobart last July.

He has raced only six times since that win, with three appearances so far this season following more than a year on the sidelines.

The gelding resumed with a sixth placing in a 1400m Class 6 here last month before again finishing sixth over 1420m at this venue.

He then stepped to 1600m in a Benchmark 60 last start, finishing fifth when again racing over a distance short of his proven best.

Rising in trip suits at this stage of his preparation, and with conditions likely to assist him, the veteran may be capable of producing a surprise at odds.
