Wagga Value Bet - Race 6 No. 4 Perfectly Good

A return to Benchmark 50 company looks an attractive proposition for Perfectly Good, who arrives off a competitive performance in stronger grade at Wagga and appears capable of surprising at generous odds.

The Doug Gorrel-trained five-year-old finished third behind Marsabit in a Benchmark 66 over 2000m at this venue on October 17, beaten just half a length in a seven-runner field.

Although his recent form has been mixed, that latest effort was encouraging, particularly given he was rising in distance, while the gelding has previously demonstrated his effectiveness over Friday's 1600m trip.

The son of Super Seth has recorded a win and two further placings from seven Wagga appearances, including a career victory at this distance, with the familiar circuit and drop in grade both working in his favour.

Pierre Boudvillain retains the ride at 61kg, and while barrier 11 presents a challenge, Perfectly Good brings stronger recent form than several rivals and appeals at around $7.50, particularly with Roy Kelton attracting market attention following his Canberra maiden victory.

Wagga Best Bet - Race 7 No. 4 Sister Shay

The rise from 1200m to 1400m looks ideal for Sister Shay, who brings an excellent second-up record into Friday's Stan Sadleir Stakes.

The Craig Widdison-trained mare has won four of her 16 starts, including three on Good ground, while her only previous appearance over this course and distance also produced a placing.

Her season began with a seventh behind Befuddle in a Seymour Benchmark 70 for fillies and mares on October 11, beaten less than two lengths after settling midfield and sticking to the task fairly well, with no first-up form to her name.

That performance should provide a solid fitness platform for the rise in distance, particularly with the five-year-old having recorded a win and two seconds from three previous second-up appearances, while her earlier metropolitan form includes competitive efforts in stronger company.

Nick Heywood takes the ride from barrier eight, and although the draw presents a slight challenge, Sister Shay has the tactical versatility to secure a suitable position and looks the runner to beat with improvement expected from her resumption.

Raising Hope With Steph BM66 Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Wagga Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 3 Pietro Road

Two strong performances over the Wagga 1000m this preparation make Pietro Road one of the more reliable prospects on Friday's program, with the six-year-old returning to the same course after a victory and narrow second in Benchmark 66 company.

The Tim Donnelly-trained gelding resumed at Corowa in September before producing an impressive performance here on September 28, overcoming interference approaching the home turn to finish strongly and defeat Ditterich by a length.

He was arguably even better on October 17, again settling towards the rear before encountering traffic in the straight, eventually finding clear running and charging home to finish a narrow second behind Star Of Lily.

Those performances have confirmed his effectiveness over this track and distance, while a career record of two wins and three placings from 12 starts suggests there could still be improvement to come.

Carly Frater retains the ride from barrier one after building a productive association with Pietro Road, and although the inside draw presents a potential traffic concern given his usual racing pattern, he looks capable of making amends for his narrow last-start defeat with clear running.
