Pakenham Best Bet - Race 7 No. 3 Garnacho
Two encouraging efforts from the rear this preparation suggest Garnacho is building towards another victory, with the five-year-old appearing well placed to improve third-up in Friday night's 1600m Benchmark 62.
The Emma-Lee and David Browne-trained gelding resumed over 1400m at Bendigo on October 4, where he was held up at a crucial stage before working home for sixth behind Regal Might, beaten less than three lengths.
There was further merit in his October 15 performance over 1700m at Warrnambool, again settling towards the rear before finishing strongly into fifth behind Cute Girl, beaten just over two lengths despite having plenty of ground to make up.
A return to Pakenham looks particularly suitable, with Garnacho having placed in three of his four previous appearances at the circuit, generally when settling closer to the speed, while his third-up record includes a win and a placing from three attempts.
Brad Rawiller takes the ride from barrier nine, and although the draw presents a slight challenge, a more positive approach could make all the difference, with the gelding now possessing a solid fitness platform and looking capable of figuring prominently at attractive odds.

Pakenham Value Bet - Race 8 No. 8 Empressive Enuff
A lengthy winning drought could finally come to an end for Empressive Enuff in Friday night's finale, with the experienced gelding showing encouraging signs in two appearances this preparation ahead of the 1400m Benchmark 62.
The Reece Goodwin-trained runner resumed on the Pakenham Synthetic on October 5, finishing third behind Neziha in a competitive 1200m assignment, with the winner subsequently strengthening that form through another victory.
He backed up that performance with another placing at Cranbourne on October 16, racing prominently before sticking on fairly for third behind Ranarsson, with the effort suggesting he is approaching peak fitness despite being unable to match the winner late.
There is also encouragement in his previous preparation patterns, having improved significantly on benchmark figures third-up last campaign, while the preparation before that saw him place at Pakenham at the same stage before recording consecutive victories, including one at Flemington.
Barrier 11 is the obvious complication, although there appears limited early pressure drawn inside him, potentially allowing John Noonan to roll forward without doing too much work, and if Empressive Enuff can secure a comfortable position near the speed, he looks capable of giving a strong account of himself at double-figure odds.
