Ipswich will stage seven races on Friday, October 30, with a Heavy 10 track set to influence proceedings. Switz is the leading tip in Race 6, backed by a strong recent trial and proven ability over 1350m. Mission Of Joy is considered a strong contender in Race 5 after two encouraging runs, including a dominant maiden win and a close second in metropolitan company. Down Under Stunnah is favoured in Race 2 due to her record on rain-affected tracks, while Life After Love is a value pick in Race 4, though her Heavy-track credentials are unproven. Track conditions and recent form underpin all selections.

Ipswich Tips October 30

Great Northern Class 3 Handicap Tips (Race 2)

Ipswich Favourite - Race 2 No. 2 Down Under Stunnah

Down Under Stunnah is a proven Heavy-track performer, with the first of her two career victories coming in testing conditions at the Sunshine Coast in April last year.

The six-year-old appeared to relish the going that day, and although she has subsequently placed on Good ground, her only other victory came on a Soft surface, suggesting rain-affected conditions bring out her best.

Her first two appearances this preparation came in metropolitan company, beginning with a fifth at Doomben in September before finishing seventh at Eagle Farm over 1820m on October 3.

While unable to threaten in either assignment, the daughter of Under The Louvre appreciated the return to Ipswich and drop in grade when finishing runner-up in a five-runner Class 2 Plate over 1965m on October 15, beaten just over a length on Good ground.

The rise to 2190m holds no concerns, with her Sunshine Coast breakthrough coming over 2200m, and the return to Heavy conditions is another positive. With connections electing to target this race rather than an Eagle Farm assignment on Wednesday, Down Under Stunnah looks well placed to return to winning form.

Ipswich Value Bet - Race 4 No. 3 Life After Love

A much-improved third at Doomben last start suggested Life After Love is getting closer to recording her second career victory, with the Tony Gollan-trained mare now dropping back to provincial company for Friday's 1100m assignment.

The four-year-old finished just over a length from the winner in an 1110m Benchmark 0-65 handicap on Good ground, building on an encouraging first-up effort at Eagle Farm in September.

On that occasion, the daughter of I Am Invincible raced prominently on a Soft surface before finishing fourth of seven, beaten just over three-and-a-half lengths, with the performance providing a solid platform for her subsequent improvement.

Life After Love should be approaching peak fitness third-up, and the drop from metropolitan company is another positive, although the Heavy 10 presents a genuine question mark given her only previous appearance in those conditions came at Newcastle on just her second career start.

That early effort is worth forgiving, particularly with the mare having gained considerable experience since, and the combination of Ben Thompson and Tony Gollan adds further appeal. From barrier five, Life After Love looks capable of making her presence felt at attractive odds.

Ipswich Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 9 Mission Of Joy

Mission Of Joy has made an immediate impression since joining Matt Hoysted ahead of the 2026/27 season, producing two encouraging performances that suggest her breakthrough victory could be the beginning of a productive campaign.

The four-year-old opened her preparation with a dominant maiden success on Soft ground at the Sunshine Coast in September, settling fourth from an inside barrier before finishing strongly to score by four lengths over 1200m.

She then stepped into metropolitan Class 1 company at Eagle Farm over the same distance on October 14, producing another strong finish to place second and narrowly miss out on consecutive victories.

There was plenty to like about the way she attacked the line at Eagle Farm, particularly after being ridden with greater restraint, while the sixth placegetter from that contest subsequently won on the Gold Coast Polytrack, providing an early boost to the form.

The rise to 1350m looks suitable given her recent finishing efforts, and the daughter of Per Incanto has demonstrated enough tactical versatility to overcome a wide draw. Her only previous Heavy-track appearance is best overlooked after she finished lame at Geelong in July, leaving Mission Of Joy with strong claims of returning to winning form.

Ipswich Best Bet - Race 6 No. 4 Switz

Switz showed considerable promise throughout his previous preparation, culminating in a convincing maiden victory at Doomben, and the Jack Bruce-trained gelding looks well placed to make a successful return on Friday.

The five-year-old broke through over 1350m on a Soft 7 surface, scoring by more than a length and a half after producing one of the strongest performances of his career.

That victory was particularly encouraging given his earlier form had largely been established on Good ground, with all but one of his six previous appearances during the campaign coming on firmer surfaces.

His only other Soft-track appearance that preparation resulted in a disappointing finish at Kembla Grange, although that effort came first-up and is worth overlooking, while his sole previous Heavy-track run was more than two years ago and offers little guidance on his current capabilities.

An impressive Deagon trial at the end of September suggests the son of Vancouver is ready to perform fresh, and the combination of Bruce and Ben Thompson has been particularly successful this season, producing 13 winners from 31 runners at a strike rate approaching 42%. With proven ability over 1350m and plenty of scope for further improvement, Switz looks a strong chance of opening his Ipswich account.
