Wagga Tips July 29

Romanos Hotel Riverina Cup Prelude – Benchmark 74 Handicap – Heat Of Wagga Stayers Series Tips (Race 1)

Wagga Value Bet - Race 1 No. 6 Sorry Sunshine

The five-year-old is a course regular, with sixteen of his 29 starts having come at Wagga.

Those starts include three victories, with the most recent of those coming over 1400m on his penultimate outing.

Sorry Sunshine came home over a length clear of his rivals when competing in a Benchmark 58 handicap on a Heavy 10 surface that day.

He finished strongly on that occasion, with the step up to 2000m here unlikely to be an issue, having gone well over track/trip in the past.

That course and distance effort saw the gelding beaten just over one-and-a-half-lengths into fourth in a Benchmark 66 handicap held on a sound surface here in May.

Doug Gorrel’s representative arrives here on the back of a solid fourth over 1500m at Albury and he rates value to record his fifth win in the last twelve months.

Wagga Best Bet - Race 4 No. 5 Choice Witness

While the mare failed to shine last time out, she can be forgiven that effort, which came in a 1300m metro Benchmark 70 handicap at Sandown last week.

The daughter of Showtime is better judged on her earlier efforts, including when winning impressively over 1200m here two starts back.

Choice Witness came home nearly three lengths clear of her rivals when contesting a Benchmark 66 handicap that day.

Victory in that event saw the four-year-old maintain her unbeaten record on heavy ground, with the Heavy 10 surface appearing to suit Ben Brisbourne’s representative.

The extra distance she is set to tackle here is no issue, having won twice from three outings over 1400m, including at Albury in January.

From an inside barrier, Choice Witness looks capable of returning to winning ways.

Wagga Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 5 Witch Of November

While unable to score in four previous starts on heavy going, the filly has finished in the money in three of those outings.

All four of those efforts have come this prep, including when runner-up in a 900m Benchmark 58 handicap at Albury last month.

Witch Of November was beaten less than half-a-length that day and she filled the same position when beaten half-a-length over 1000m at Gundagai next time.

The three-year-old was slowly away when racing on a Heavy 9 track at Gundagai and she arrives here on the back of a third-place finish over this track/trip.

That latest effort saw the youngster beaten just over two-and-a-half-lengths, having jumped from a wide barrier.

The daughter of Starspangledbanner has gone well at this level in the past and she's going well enough to feature here.

Wagga Roughie - Race 8 No. 7 Brie Brie

The daughter of Fiorente has recorded some good efforts this prep and she registered her third career win when saluting here last time.

That triumph, which came by just under a length in a 1600m Class 2 handicap, marked her second win at this venue.

The five-year-old had previously delivered a highly promising effort when placing third in a 1400m Benchmark 50 handicap at Gundagai at the end of last month.

Both of those efforts came on heavy going, with that latest success marking Brie Brie's second victory on a heavy surface from seven starts.

She also boasts two third-place finishes in testing conditions and barrier eight shouldn’t be an issue, having gone well from a wide alley on her penultimate start.

Trainer Danny Beasley has engaged apprentice Amy O’Driscoll to ride here and her two kilogram allowance could prove invaluable in this contest.
