Sale Tips February 1

Bennett Electrical Contractors Maiden Plate Tips (Race 3)

Sale Roughie - Race 3 No. 5 Doubta

The three-year-old failed to shine when making his racecourse debut in a 1300m maiden at Seymour just after Christmas.

The gelding finished tenth of twelve in that contest, beaten nearly eleven lengths after racing from off the pace on a Good 4 surface.

His jockey suggested post-race that longer distances would suit, and he took a clear step forward when stretched out to 1512m in a Geelong maiden subsequently.

Ridden quietly again, the son of Doubtland stayed on strongly into fourth, beaten three lengths on a sound surface.

Danny O’Brien’s gelding is bred to appreciate further ground, remains open to improvement on his third career start, and is expected to handle the forecast Soft 5 conditions.

Sale Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 4 Mongolian Mission

Danny O’Brien’s representative showed an affinity for wet conditions when scoring a narrow maiden victory over 1100m at Wangaratta in August.

After being spelled, the gelding returned with a solid fourth-place finish in a Class 1 handicap at Gawler in December.

He backed that up with a third-place effort over 1300m in a small-field Benchmark 62 at Cranbourne, where the winner later completed a double.

Both runs came on Good 4 surfaces, suggesting further upside with added fitness and distance.

The return to a wet track is no concern, and Mongolian Mission looks capable of returning to winning form.

Sale Best Bet - Race 7 No. 6 Gold Medallist

The unbeaten mare brings strong form into this event after recording four consecutive wins earlier this season.

Three of those victories came on wet tracks, including a Benchmark 66 success at Bendigo where she scored by a length.

She followed that effort with a metropolitan win at Sandown, defeating a rival who later won at Moonee Valley.

Gold Medallist has since impressed with two solid second-place finishes in Pakenham jumpouts.

Emily Pozman’s two-kilogram claim is significant, and the Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman-trained mare looks well placed to continue her winning run.

Sale Favourite - Race 8 No. 3 Don’t Russia

The daughter of Russian Revolution showed consistent form last preparation, including a win on Soft going at Bairnsdale in August.

She went on to place in a metropolitan event at Sandown before scoring again over 1012m at this venue at Benchmark 66 level.

That campaign concluded with a solid sixth in a $150,000 Benchmark 80 at Moonee Valley over 1200m.

Returning this preparation, the mare produced a promising fourth over 1000m at Pakenham.

An inside barrier and proven course form make Don’t Russia a strong chance to add a third win from seven starts at Sale.
