Echuca Tips July 24

Moama Bowling Club Maiden Plate Tips (Race 1)

Echuca Best Bet - Race 1 No. 6 Knights Emperor

This Waterhouse and Bott-trained gelding is one-paced, but he should be suited by the rise in distance third-up on Friday, with Knights Emperor tackling 2100m at just his fourth career start.

He put in a shocker on debut at Newcastle on Boxing Day before a spell, while his return was preceded by some solid yet workmanlike jump-outs.

The three-year-old resumed with an honest fifth-of-14 finish at Bendigo on June 25, where he simply lacked the turn of foot over seven furlongs, before appreciating the rise to 1746m second-up at Sale.

He was under pressure a long way from home there but continued to find in a race won by the well-backed Polar Perspective, who had been knocking on the door, while Knights Emperor put a good margin on third despite lacking the winner's dash.

He'll make his own luck on the speed and, while this is a low-grade maiden, it's one that he can take out with any improvement over the longer journey.

Echuca Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Gina's Star

It's been a productive July for Mitchell Freedman, with the Ballarat stable recording six winners and six placegetters from just 21 starters.

That record could improve further on Thursday with Motiver among the early market fancies at Warrnambool, and Freedman saddles Gina's Star.

The mare bolted in second-up at Ballarat on a Heavy 8 before a solid third as a beaten favourite at Bendigo on July 5, where she was only touched off late by National Code.

National Code arrived at that Bendigo affair off a runner-up finish behind the smart and unbeaten Tennessee Bound, and this is a weaker assignment for Gina's Star.

Dismantle, the second market elect here, was heavily beaten in the same July 5 race, and while Redemption Time has been racing consistently, she has just one win from 36 starts, so Gina's Star could well win this by default.

Echuca Value Bet - Race 8 No. 2 Tapo

Tapo's Swan Hill resumption on June 7 had merit despite tiring late into a three-length defeat after doing the early work on speed.

She comfortably beat the two rivals that challenged her in front before improving with a fourth-of-14 finish in a stronger Bendigo BM66 on July 5.

Friday's assignment represents a worthwhile drop back to BM56 company for the Echuca local, who can push forward and give a big sight.

The main query is that she's generally recognised as a shorter-course sprinter, with four of her five wins coming between 1000m and 1100m, although the daughter of Frosted does own a 1200m victory on this circuit.

All five career wins have come at Echuca, with her only time out of the money at this track being a fourth-place finish earlier this season, and an each-way quote is available for Tapo third-up.
