Port Adelaide Power are poised to secure a victory against the Richmond Tigers in Round 4 of the AFL 2026 season, looking to improve to a 2-2 record. Richmond has shown potential but failed to capitalize offensively against stronger opponents. Meanwhile, Port Adelaide hopes to solve their stoppage issues, utilizing their midfield advantage despite an injured backline. Jase Burgoyne and Luke Trainor are anticipated to reach over 20 disposals, making a significant impact on the game as Port aims to cover the 10.5-point spread and achieve parity early in the season.

Richmond Tigers vs Port Adelaide Power AFL Round 4 Tips

Richmond Tigers vs Port Adelaide Power, Round 4 2026 - Expert Prediction

Port will go to 2-2 to start the season, covering the 10.5-point line as the away favourite against Richmond on Saturday.
The Power have had arguably the lightest strength of schedule to start 2026 yet they are only 1-2 and are now desperate to go to .500 before the season gets away from them in the first month of footy.

You cannot have asked for too much more from Richmond, pushing Carlton to the brink and suffering heavy losses to very superior teams. The concern for the Tigers has been their inability to move the ball and get things going forward, however they have faced two Premiership contender in the Gold Coast and Freo.

Port have been poor, but that being said they have the pieces in the midfield and forward line to do enough against Richmond, that is if their tattered backline can hold up. The Power will need to be better at stoppages and win the pressure battle that keeps the territory in their favour.

This game will be a scrap and both teams' midfielders will be the difference. For Port, Jase Burgoyne will need to continue to get more touches with Rozee being out, while Luke Trainor showed how vital he will be for the Tigers in the future with his 28 disposals last week.

Take both mids for 20+ disposals and the Power will do enough to kick away and cover, not making the same mistake as they did last week against West Coast.

  • Port Adelaide have won the last 5 matches against Richmond by 10 points or more.
  • 8 of the last 11 matches between Richmond and Port have had a match total of under 180.5
  • Jase Burgoyne has hit 20+ disposals in his last 2 matches.
  • Luke Trainor had a career-high 28 disposals in his first match of 2026 against Fremantle.

Head to Head Stats

Richmond and Port faced each other in Round 2, 2025 resulting in a 72 point shellacking by the Power.

Port Adelaide have won the last 5 matches against Richmond by as little as 10 and as much as the 72 points from last season and an average of 36.8 points.

The last 3 matches have ended with the game total hitting the over.

Richmond Tigers Form Analysis

Richmond’s start to the season gave positive signs, pushing Carlton to the brink and almost snatching an Opening round win, however, the young cubs have not been able to follow up that performance suffering heavy defeats to the Gold Coast 128-60 followed by a tough day in Perth last week going down 103-43 to Freo on Saturday afternoon.

An average of 58 points scored over their first three matches of the season is the real alarm, unable to create any forward pressure for a significant amount of time. The Tigers make their way into the forward 50 just 44 times per game, the least of any in the AFL and also convert those entries into goals at a rate of just 18.2%, also the least of any.

Tim Taranto averages 26.3 disposals a game and is doing the heavy work through the midfield, however, Richmond’s ability to find space and hold easy possession gives them little chance to move the ball forward.

Port Adelaide Power Form Analysis

Is it a new low for Port, throwing away a 29-point, second-quarter lead against West Coast to be trailing by as much as 17 points in the  fourth and going down 90-92 in front of their home fans in Adelaide.

There are big concerns for the Power under Josh Carr with Port lacking attitude and composure especially now that Connor Rozee is out for an undisclosed period. The new head coach hasn’t brought any initial change to the Power with them looking a lot like the team that finished 13th last season.

Despite their stacked midfield Port have been poor clearing the ruck, ranked second-worst at stoppage clearances (18.3/G). Zak Butters’ influence hasn’t been as impactful despite his team-leading 29.7 disposals per game.
