Melbourne Demons vs Gold Coast Suns, Round 4 2026 - Expert Prediction

Melbourne have definitely overachieved to start the season but they will get a rude awakening against a rested Suns team this Easter Sunday.

Gold Coast have completely obliterated their opponents to start the season although worth noting is that 2 of those are also tipped to be bottom 4 teams when everything is said and done. But you can only play what is in front of you and Gold Coast have achieved that with flying colours.

The Demons were looking down the barrel of a second straight blowout before turning things around against the Blues last weekend. They have been able to prove that the young talent coming through has a lot of potential and the old heads can carry this team somewhat well.

Their problem though is playing footy for the full 4 quarters and against a rampaging Suns team that can create momentum out of thin air, those lapses at the wrong times can and will cost them dearly.

The stats are very clear in this head to head, the Suns dominate right across the park. Even if they have a bad day at one end of the field they are good enough everywhere else to make up for it.

Take Gold Coast to win by a margin clearing the 21.5 line. Given the pace that the Suns play with, they inevitably allow points the other way. Take both teams to surpass 81 pts. Ben King goalkicking ladders is a top pick as is Noah Anderson’s Disposals.

  • Gold Coast are the top ranked scoring team in the AFL and are amongst the top 3 teams in most statistical measures.
  • The Suns have conceded the fewest points but still allowed 72 to West Coast and 60 to Richmond. Melbourne are a much better attacking team than those two.
  • Ben King has kicked 4, 5 and 7 goals in his three games this season. He kicked 3 and 4 against Melbourne in the two matchups last season.
  • Noah Anderson has had 30+ disposals in 3 of his last 4 games vs Melbourne.

Head to Head Stats

Gold Coast won both matchups last year which ended a 12 game win streak for the Demons dating back to R5 of 2014 when the Suns had previously won this head to head.

The last 5 games have all gone Over the Game Total. Only 1 game has been played at the MCG since the start of the 2019 season which was last year, the Suns winning 120-62.

Melbourne Demons Form Analysis

The Demons stunned the Blues last week with a 43 pt comeback at the MCG to take their record to 2-1 on the short season.

The comeback was as much Melbourne gaining momentum as Carlton throwing it away (again) but there were some standout performers for the winning team including Kozzie Pickett who had 19 touches, 5 clearances and a goal in the 2nd half alone, and Bayley Fritsch who kicked 4 majors in the 2nd half.

The win overshadowed the poor start from Melbourne which allowed their opponent to get out to such a big lead. Something that more complete teams would not have given up.

Gold Coast Suns Form Analysis

The Suns had their first bye of the season last week after participating in Opening Round. They are one of only 2 teams to remain undefeated to start the season.

Their most recent matchup was a 128-60 win over the Richmond Tigers in Melbourne and at the completion of Round 3 they had scored the most points and conceded the fewest across the entire AFL.

The Suns also sit amongst the top teams in most stats across the board and their star players rank high in individual metrics, Noah Anderson is still in the top names in the 2026 Brownlow Medal Odds rankings.
