Where they finish: 1st in the AFL in 2024

The only thing that can derail the Pies from taking the Minor Premiership again in 2024 is injury. They are one of, if not THE most consistent team in the AFL and have weapons at all spots on the park. Come finals time it is anyone's game but the regular season rewards consistency and planning which Collingwood seem to have mastered under 2023.

What’s to like

Collingwood were maybe not the best in the league in many metrics in 2023 but they were near the top in almost every single attacking stat. This points to consistency across the board which is key to being a successful team across a whole season.

The Pies were 2nd in the AFL for Marks inside 50 during the 2023 season and 5th in the league for Uncontested Possessions. These two stats together draw a picture of a team that relies heavily on their kicking skills and that not only have a solid plan on how they want to move the ball forward but are great at executing that plan.

What’s NOT to like

The Grand Final Hangover is a thing, maybe not every year but almost half the teams over the past 7 years have fallen to the curse. Geelong finished 12th last year after their 2022 Premiership, the Tigers 12th after their win in 2020 and the Bulldogs 10th after their 2016 Victory.

The Magpies will have the oldest squad for average age when the 2024 season gets started and history tells us it takes a bit longer for the old blokes to get going. If injury plays its part it could be a tough road for the Pies.

Collingwood were 7th and 3rd respectively for Opposition Inside 50’s and Opposition Clearances in 2023 again pointing to an aging squad that relies more on skill than energy and the run.
