Monte Carlo is the only Masters 1000 tournament Djokovic hasn't won three times - mostly due to Rafael Nadal's unprecedented dominance at this event when the pair were in their primes. Djokovic's last title in Monte Carlo came back in 2015, so he will need to return to the champions corner a decade later if he is going to claim his 100th career trophy here.
Djokovic going all the way in Monte Carlo might be a stretch, but he's received a comfortable opening draw in the shape of Tabilo, who has lost eight of his last nine matches on clay and only won a total of three matches throughout 2025. Tabilo was barely able to get over the line against 40-year-old wildcard Stan Wawrinka in his opening match (prevailing 7-5 in the third) and his current form won't be enough to trouble Djokovic, who is tipped to cover a -4.5 games line and win in straights.
Head To Head
Tabilo leads 1-0, stunning Djokovic 6-2 6-3 as he went on to make the Rome Masters semi-finals last year, when he was in career-best form.
Novak Djokovic Form
It's been a challenging last 16 months or so for Djokovic if you take out the Paris Olympics, with the Serbian registering a 12-5 record on the 2025 season so far.
As expected, Djokovic is finally starting to feel the affects of the tour at 37 years of age, which is obviously contributing to his sub-par performances.
Djokovic came agonisingly close to securing his 100th career title in Miami, advancing to the final without dropping a single set, but falling in two tiebreaks to teenage star Jakub Mensik, with physical issues again plaguing the 24-time major champion.
Down at No. 5 in the world, Djokovic reached the Monte Carlo semi-finals last year, falling to Casper Ruud in three sets.
Alejandro Tabilo Form
It's been a shocking season for Tabilo, who comes into this contest with a 3-9 record for the year.
Tabilo enjoyed a breakout season in 2024, breaking into the top 20 and winning two ATP titles, but he's struggling with the increased pressure and expectation in 2025.
The Chilean has lost eight of his last nine matches on clay, suffering defeats to the likes of Chun Hsin Tseng, Federico Coria and Jenson Brooksby.
Tabilo almost copped another demoralising loss in his Monte Carlo opener, coming from a set down to edge out 40-year-old wildcard Stan Wawrinka 1-6 7-5 7-5.

Verdict
Tabilo has been in awful form this season and barely survived a 40-year-old Wawrinka in his opening round.
Djokovic obviously isn't the force he once was, but he still made the Miami final in his last tournament and he'll also have revenge on his mind for Rome last year. Can't see Djokovic having too much trouble here.
