It promises to be a cracking contest as World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz squares off against rising star Arthur Fils in the Monte Carlo Masters quarter-finals on Friday.

Alcaraz is continuing his pursuit of a first Monte Carlo title, while Fils has been in electric form over the last couple of months and is aiming to secure a maiden Masters 1000 title after some consistent showings across the last three tournaments. Indeed, Fils has become the youngest ever player at 20 years of age to reach the quarter-finals of the first three Masters 1000 tournaments of the season.

Up to a live ranking of No. 13, you get the sense Fils is on the verge of a huge breakthrough - and it could come in this match. Alcaraz remains wildly inconsistent and even though he's finished his last two matches strongly, I still have my doubts regarding his form. I'm predicting a three-setter in this clash, which will push the match Over 21.5 total games and should see Fils cover a +4.5 games line. I'm also betting a small stake on Fils to prevail in three at juicy odds of $7.50.

Alcaraz comes into this encounter with a 17-4 record on the season and looking to leapfrog Alexander Zverev into No. 2 in the rankings with a deep run in Monte Carlo.

It hasn't been an overly spectacular season by Alcaraz's lofty standards - he went down to an injured Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open quarter-finals and was defeated by Jack Draper and David Goffin in Indian Wells and Miami respectively.

The Spaniard claimed his only title of the season so far indoors at Rotterdam and will be hoping a return to clay sparks some more consistency in his game.

Alcaraz is playing Monte Carlo for just the second time in his career and he's advanced to the quarter-finals relatively comfortable, downing Francisco Cerundolo 3-6 6-0 6-1 before taking out qualifier Daniel Altmaier 6-3 6-1 in the R16.

Arthur Fils Form

It's been an explosive rise up the rankings for Fils, who is up to a career-high live mark of No. 13 courtesy of his run to the Monte Carlo quarter-finals.

After collecting two ATP 500 titles last year, Fils has raised his level and is doing damage at the Masters 1000 events, becoming the only player to have reached the quarter-finals in Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo.

The 20-year-old is now the No. 1 Frenchman on tour after defeating Tallon Griekspoor, Flavio Cobolli and Andrey Rublev in Monte Carlo this week.

Fils completely dismantled Rublev 6-2 6-3 in the R16 on Thursday, winning 21/26 points behind his first serve to secure the seventh top 10 scalp of his career (2-1 in 2025).
