World No. 1 Jannik Sinner faces Adrian Mannarino in the Cincinnati Masters R16, continuing his title defense. Sinner holds a dominant record, boasting a 22-match winning streak on hardcourt and a 3-0 head-to-head lead against Mannarino. Despite Mannarino's recent resurgence, Sinner's superior form, including victories at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, makes him the favorite. Mannarino's unorthodox playstyle might frustrate some, but Sinner's robust performance is anticipated to secure him a convincing win.

Sinner is the overwhelming favourite here, which is stating the obvious. The Italian is on a 22-match winning streak on hardcourt and has gone 46-0 vs players ranked outside the top 20 on hardcourt since going down to Dusan Lajovic at this very tournament two years ago. Sinner has won all three previous meetings with Mannarino, but this will be their first clash in over two years.

You could count on one hand how many tour-level matches Mannarino had won this season heading into the Toronto Masters last week, but now he's doubled that tally alone, making an unlikely run to the R16 from qualifying. The 37-year-old's unorthodox game frustrated Tommy Paul in the previous round, but Sinner won't have the same issues. Expect the top seed to overpower Mannarino's court craft and cruise to a routine victory.

Head To Head

Sinner leads 3-0, but they also haven't played since the Italian entered this current era of dominance. Sinner was a 7-6 6-4 winner in their most-recent clash at 2023 Indian Wells.

Jannik Sinner Form

Sinner comes into this contest with a 27-3 record on the season, highlighted by defending his Australian Open title and winning his maiden Wimbledon crown.

The 23-year-old has done a fantastic job of putting his heartbreaking Roland Garros final loss to Carlos Alcaraz behind him and now he has his sights set on defending his Cincinnati and US Open titles over the coming weeks.

Returning to action for the first time since beating Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final, Sinner has advanced into the Cincinnati R16 without dropping a set in wins over Daniel Galan and Gabriel Diallo.

However, Sinner didn't have things go exactly his own way against Diallo - he was forced to come from 0-2 down early in the first set and then needed to save a set point in the second set tiebreak with a thunderous forehand return to complete a 6-2 7-6(6) victory.

Adrian Mannarino Form

Mannarino entered the Toronto Masters with a 4-8 record on the season and looking like this could be the beginning of the end of a fantastic career.

However, the tricky Frenchman has enjoyed a nice resurgence and comes into this clash having won seven of his last eight matches - with his only defeat coming against eventual Toronto champion Ben Shelton.

The 37-year-old, who was a Cincinnati quarter-finalist in 2023, has already won five matches from qualifying this tournament, defeating Mitchell Krueger and Dalibor Svrcina to reach the main draw.

Mannarino wasn't done there, toppling Jordan Thompson and Tomas Machac before earning his first top 20 victory since last year, taking out No. 16 Tommy Paul 5-7 6-3 6-4.

Verdict

Sinner is as dominant on hardcourt as they come and while Mannarino is playing well again lately, this just isn't a good matchup for his unorthodox game to shine.
