Carlos Alcaraz faces Hamad Medjedovic at the Cincinnati Masters, aiming for his first title at this event. Medjedovic, recovering from injuries, progressed impressively through the initial rounds. With powerful serves and groundstrokes, he poses a significant threat, especially in favorable conditions. Alcaraz, with a stellar season record and numerous titles including the French Open, remains a favorite despite past early exits and a shaky tournament start marked by errors. Carlos Alcaraz vs Hamad Medjedovic Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

I think this is a great opportunity for Medjedovic to make a statement. The 22-year-old won the 2023 Next Gen ATP Finals, but his progress up the rankings has been repeatedly hindered due to various injuries. His latest setback came at Wimbledon when he was forced to retire, but he's made a successful return in Cincinnati, winning his two previous rounds in straight sets - and now he gets a shot at the World No. 2.

Medjedovic has a huge serve and powerful groundstrokes - and with his match scheduled right in the middle of the day, the warm conditions and quick courts will help the Serbian and his chance for an upset. Alcaraz lost early in Cincinnati last year to Gael Monfils and he's on record in saying he finds it tough to produce his best tennis at this tournament. The Spaniard obviously still deserves to be favourite and will likely dig out the win, but backing Medjedovic to cover a +4.5 games line.

Head To Head

This will be the first career meeting between the pair.

Carlos Alcaraz Form

Nobody has won more matches in 2025 than Alcaraz, who comes into this clash with a 49-6 record on the season, winning five titles and once again dominating the clay swing.

Alcaraz picked up titles at the Monte Carlo and Rome Masters before triumphing in one of the greatest Grand Slam finals in history when he saved three championship points to conquer Jannik Sinner at Roland Garros.

The Spaniard couldn't repeat that victory at Wimbledon however, falling to the Italian in four sets in the final - and after he decided to bypass the Canada Masters, making his return in Cincinnati this week.

Alcaraz has experienced a mixed time in his previous appearances in Cincinnati - he was a runner-up in 2023, but suffered an opening loss last year to Gael Monfils in what was one of the worst matches of his career.

The 22-year-old delivered another error-strewn performance in his first match back - Alcaraz ultimately defeated Damir Dzumhur 6-1, 2-6, 6-3, but made a whopping 44 unforced errors in the process.

Hamad Medjedovic Form

Medjedovic actually has a positive 13-9 record at tour-level this season - and if he could get his body right and remain injury-free, he would certainly be top 50 and probably pushing even higher.

The Serbian has a huge game and illustrated his potential by taking out the 2023 Next Gen ATP Finals, beating Arthur Fils in the final - and the Frenchman has gone on to make the top 15.

The 22-year-old dropped to as low as No. 160 in the world last year due to injury, but he's been gradually rebuilding that ranking and is currently No. 72.

Medjedovic was a runner-up at the ATP 250 event in Marseille early in the year and also made the third round of Roland Garros and the quarter-finals of Mallorca before he was forced to retire in the opening round of Wimbledon.

Returning in Cincinnati, Medjedovic has produced two great performances, beating Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-2 6-3 and 26th seed Tallon Griekspoor 6-4 7-6.

Verdict

Medjedovic has registered two very good wins so far in Cincinnati and if he can remain at this level, he'll have some chances to do damage against Alcaraz, who isn't the biggest fan of the Cincinnati conditions.

Still backing Alcaraz to win, but the Serbian should make this very competitive.
