Alexander Zverev vs Brandon Nakashima Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

It's been a difficult overall season for Zverev, with his latest setback coming at the Canada Masters last week, where as the top seed, he was defeated by Karen Khachanov in the semi-finals. The German has played well in Cincinnati lately, winning the title and making the semi-finals in his last three appearances (2021, 2023 & 2024). Meanwhile, Nakashima continues to post consistent results on tour, but the American struggles when he runs into quality opponents - indeed, he hasn't beaten a top 30 player all season, so asking him to upset the World No. 3 here is a stretch, especially when you consider their H2H record as well. Backing Zverev to win the crucial points and prevail in straights.

Head To Head

Zverev leads 4-0, with three of their matches coming in Grand Slam play. Their lone meeting outside of the slams was the most-recent, with Zverev coming away with a 7-5 6-4 victory in the Stuttgart quarter-finals earlier this season.

Alexander Zverev Form

Zverev has put together a 40-15 record on the season, but his lone title is the ATP 500 at home in Munich and he's struggled in the big Masters 1000 and Grand Slam events.

The German linked up with Rafa and Toni Nadal after a shock first round Wimbledon exit to Arthur Rinderknech in a bid to bring some spark back into his tennis, but it remains to be seen if anything will change.

It wasn't a great first tournament back for Zverev, despite making the semi-finals in Toronto. He was the top seed in the absence of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, but failed to take advantage and lost in three sets to Karen Khachanov - a player he had a great recent record against.

Zverev will be hoping for better success in Cincinnati, where he was the champion in 2021. He got off to a no-nonsense start, cruising past Nishesh Basavareddy 6-3 6-3.

Brandon Nakashima Form

Nakashima has compiled a 25-20 record so far this season, hitting a career-high ranking of No. 29 in May (currently No. 31).

The American has won back-to-back matches at four of his last five events, making quarter-finals in Stuttgart and Queen's Club, along with the third round of Wimbledon and the quarter-finals in Washington. Nakashima also produced a great effort against eventual champion Ben Shelton in Toronto last week, pushing his countryman to a deciding-set tiebreak.

Also a semi-finalist in Acapulco and Houston earlier this season, Nakashima has impressive consistenty - but taking that next step towards the top 20 is an issue.

Indeed, Nakashima is still without a top 30 win to his credit this season. The 24-year-old will have another crack after edging past Belgian youngster Alexander Blockx 4-6 6-3 7-6 in his opening Cincinnati match.

Verdict

Zverev is 4-0 over Nakashima and the American hasn't beaten a top 30 player all season.

He's still far from his best, but Zverev should be able to get this done in relatively routine fashion.
