Western Sydney Wanderers vs Melbourne Victory Tips & Prediction

Melbourne Victory will be hoping to generate some positive momentum before the finals when they square off against rock bottom Western Sydney Wanderers on ANZAC Day at CommBank Stadium.

It's been an absolutely woeful season for the Wanderers, who are ensured to pick up the wooden spoon regardless of the outcome here. Western Sydney have managed just five wins from their 25 A-League games and come into this final fixture of the season on a four-match losing streak.

Victory meanwhile have only claimed two wins from their last seven games and will be determined to pick things up ahead of the finals. Victory can't finish outside the top six, but can potentially secure a home elimination final if they win this clash and Melbourne City and Sydney FC lose.

Either way, I'm backing a big win for Victory - the Wanderers checked out of this season a long time ago and while they should be good for a goal at home, I don't see them really challenging here. Charles Nduka has been very profitable for us since joining Victory in February and is backed to continue his fine goalscoring form.
  • Wanderers have lost their last four games
  • Victory's last four wins have seen BTTS land
  • Wanderers have scored in six of their last eight defeats
  • Victory's last two wins have been by 4-1 scores
  • Charles Nduka has scored four goals in his last six games, including a double last week vs Jets

WS Wanderers vs Melbourne Victory Head To Head

Victory have won just one of the last five meetings, with the Wanderers recording a shock 1-0 upset back in Round 12 courtesy of a Kosta Barbarouses penalty in the 29th minute.

Western Sydney Wanderers Form Analysis

Not really much more to say about the Wanderers.

It's been a horror season, with the club winning just five games and collecting the wooden spoon for the first time in the club's history.

The Wanderers are currently five points adrift of Brisbane in 11th heading into the final round of the season, with the side losing their last four games.

Brandon Borrello was on target for the Wanderers last week, but it wasn't enough as the team suffered a 2-1 loss across the Tasman to Wellington.

Squad will be announced on Thursday.

Melbourne Victory Form Analysis

Victory have secured finals football, but it hasn't been the best end to the regular season, with the entire campaign marred by their usual inconsistency.

Equipped with arguably the best roster in the competition, Victory continue to stumble at various stages and have blown 2-1 leads late into games two weeks in a row.

That's something Arthur Diles will want to fix heading into the finals, where those mishaps will be punished.

Victory were on course for a good win over leaders Newcastle last week, but conceded a late penalty and had to settle for a 2-2 draw. Japanese striker Charles Nduka bagged a brace, taking his season-tally to five goals since joining Victory in Feburary.

Verdict

Victory are tipped to put the final nail in the Wanderers' coffin for this season and register a big win on the road.
