In the upcoming A-League match, premiership winners Newcastle Jets will play against Central Coast Mariners at McDonald Jones Stadium. Despite their recent success, the Jets have been struggling, managing just one win in their last five matches. Conversely, the Mariners exhibit solid form, being unbeaten in 11 of their last 13 games. The match is anticipated to be a close contest, with the Mariners given a strong chance of avoiding defeat. Betting insights suggest a handicap bet on the Mariners may offer value for bettors.

Newcastle Jets vs Central Coast Mariners Tips & Prediction

Newcastle Jets will be hoping for a successful and triumphant homecoming as the recently crowned premiers welcome rivals Central Coast Mariners to McDonald Jones Stadium for the final game of the regular season on ANZAC Day.

What an historic season it's been for the Jets. Mark Milligan has put together a remarkable debut season in charge of Newcastle, with the club winning a maiden Premier's Plate and a first piece of A-League silverware since the 2008 Grand Final. The Jets have also secured a spot in the lucrative Asian Champions League Elite competition for next season, while a historic treble is still on the cards after the team took out the Australia Cup.

However, when you look past all of the achievements (which also included a club record 10-game unbeaten run), the Jets aren't in the best shape right now - and the market has overreacted to their first place finish big time. You can't have Newcastle as $1.45 favourites against the Mariners - the Jets have won just one of their last five games and that lone win needed a stoppage time goal over Sydney last month.

The Mariners are being disrespected here - they've gone unbeaten in 11 of their last 13 games and have actually beaten Newcastle in seven of the last eight meetings at McDonald Jones. Central Coast also toppled Auckland on the road last week to officially hand the Premier's Plate to Newcastle.

I'm taking the Mariners with a +1.5 handicap for the best bet (meaning they can lose by a single goal for the bet to land), while Double Chance at $2.60 is great value. Eli Adams has three score involvements in his last three appearances against CCM and bagged a brace last week - back the Jets winger to find the back of the net again.
  • Mariners have covered a +1.5 handicap in 12 of their last 13 games
  • Mariners are unbeaten in 11 of their last 13 games
  • Mariners are unbeaten in nine of their last 10 games vs Jets
  • Mariners have beaten Jets in seven of their last eight games at McDonald Jones
  • Jets have won just one of their last five games
  • Jets have failed to win by 2+ goals in their last eight games
  • Eli Adams has two goals & an assist in his last three appearances vs Mariners & scored a double last week vs Victory
  • Two of the last four Mariners' games have ended in a 2-2 draw

Newcastle Jets vs CC Mariners Head To Head

As mentioned, the Mariners have enjoyed lots of success against their F3 rivals in recent times - they prevailed in a 3-2 thriller back in Round 1 and also snapped Newcastle's eight-game winning streak later in the campaign.

Newcastle Jets Form Analysis

It's been a dream season for the Jets, who have officially finished top of the table with one game to spare, registering a 14-2-8 record.

Records have been broken left, right and centre all season for the Jets, who have now picked up two of the three domestic trophies on offer - and done it all with the league's youngest squad.

It will be interesting to see how this inexperienced squad handle the pressure of the upcoming finals series - at the moment, it appears as if the Jets could use their upcoming week off as they head straight into a two-legged semi-final against the lowest-ranked winner of the elimination finals.

Newcastle have managed just one win from their last five games, but only a point was needed to secure the Premier's Plate last week, with Eli Adams scoring a double - including a late penalty - to earn his side a 2-2 draw with Melbourne Victory.

Squad will be announced on Thursday.

Central Coast Mariners Form Analysis

Although obviously disappointed to miss the finals, it's been a positive end to the season for Central Coast and something to build on for next term.

The Mariners have proven very hard to beat over the last few months, suffering just two defeats in their last 13 games, with both losses coming against the two Melbourne sides.

Warren Moon has done an excellent job of improving this Central Coast side and they would love nothing more than to spoil Newcastle's end to the regular season party.

Central Coast already played spoiler for a finals-bound team last week, denying Auckland any chance of finishing first with a 1-0 upset on the rad, with Ali Auglah’s first-half strike proving the difference.

Verdict

The Mariners are great value to simply avoid defeat against a Jets side with just one win in their last five.
