As Wellington Phoenix gears up to face Perth Glory in the Distance Derby, both teams are in dire need of a win. With Glory marginally ahead on the ladder, the match is poised to be a thrilling contest. Neither team has displayed consistent form recently, which makes a draw a viable outcome. Wellington brings a seven-game winless run, while Glory hasn't secured a win in the last five matches. Look out for Perth striker Adam Taggart, who has shown promising form against Phoenix. A draw seems to have good value, with both teams likely to score.

Wellington Phoenix vs Perth Glory Tips & Prediction

Perth Glory fans have a rare 10am kick-off local time (1.00pm AEDT) to look forward to as they prepare to face Wellington Phoenix across the ditch in the Distance Derby on Saturday at Hnry Stadium.

Kicking off a jam-packed weekend of sport at 10am local time is never a bad thing, but can Glory stay in the finals hunt and secure all three points across the Tasman? Both these teams are in desperate need of a win, with Glory one rung and one point above Phoenix on the ladder, trailing sixth by four.

However, neither of these sides are inspiring any sort of confidence right now. Wellington's last win came back in Round 13, while Glory have gone five games without a victory. With four of the last nine meetings between the teams ending all square after 90 minutes, a draw looks like decent value in the H2H market. I also like Perth striker Adam Taggart to find the back of the net - the former Socceroo has scored four goals in his last three appearances against Wellington and will surely get his chances again in the final third.
  • BTTS has landed in five of Wellington's last seven games
  • BTTS has landed in seven of Perth's last nine games
  • Four of the last nine meetings have ended in a draw after 90 minutes
  • Perth have drawn three of their last five games
  • Wellington have drawn three of their last six games
  • Adam Taggart has scored four goals in his last three meetings with Wellington
  • The most-recent clash ended 2-2 and at least one team has scored exactly two goals in the last four encounters

Wellington Phoenix vs Perth Glory Head To Head

These two teams last met back in Round 1 this season, with Wellington recovering from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw at HBF Park.

Wellington Phoenix Form Analysis

Wellington come into this contest with a 5-6-9 record on the season and languishing in 11th spot on the ladder after 20 rounds.

Now under the tutelage of caretaker coach Chris Greenacre, Phoenix have a massive mountain to climb if they are to feature in the finals.

Phoenix bring a seven-game winless run into this encounter, losing four of those fixtures.

Wellington did however aim up last week on the road, coming away from Coopers with a 1-1 draw against Adelaide, with Manjrekar James getting on the scoresheet.

Perth Glory Form Analysis

Glory head into this showdown with a 6-4-10 record on the season and sitting one spot above Wellington on the ladder in 10th, four points off the finals positions.

Perth's season is certainly still alive - even more so if they can secure the upset on the road here - but two wins in their last nine suggest their current form isn't good enough.

After a 1-1 draw with Brisbane, Glory once again settled for a draw last week, but they would be fairly happy with a point against Auckland.

Brian Kaltek equalised with a header from a corner and Stefan Colacovski put Glory ahead midway through the second half, but Perth couldn't hold on and ultimately drew 2-2.

Verdict

Both teams are backed to score with value on the draw. Adam Taggart can continue his fine goalscoring form against the Nix.
