Sydney Roosters vs Dolphins NRL 2025 Round 9 FAQ’s

The Dolphins dropped the ball, so to speak, in the second half against Canberra letting an 18-point lead turn into a 12-point defeat. Kristian Woolf demands discipline from his team and he will get that at Suncorp against the Chooks, especially defensively.

The Roosters back has been underdone in 2025 and that will hurt them against the Dolphins, who will attack the Chooks through the middle of the field and win the territory, which has been a real weakness for Sydney this season.

The Dolphins will limit the chances of Sydney and hold them under their team total of 24.5 points and get the victory.

Jamayne Isaako has scored in all three games against the Roosters as a Dolphin and will keep that record alive on Friday.

The Dolphins have won 4 of their last 5 matches at Suncorp Stadium.
The Dolphins have conceded 22 points or less in 4 of their last 5 matches.
The Roosters rank 17th in tackles inside their opposition 20m
Jamayne Isaako has scored 4 tries in his 3 games for the Dolphins against the Roosters.

Head to Head

The Dolphins won the inaugural match against the Sydney Roosters 28-18 back in 2023, however Easts have won the following two matches.

In 2024, the match went down to the wire in Perth with the Roosters winning 40-34 after the two teams were locked 20-20 at half time.

Who are the Roosters in 2025, to be honest I still don’t know, they don’t even know.

Anzac Day brought the best out of Easts, beating the Dragons 46-18, but this result could say more about St George than the Roosters.

Sydney are a mid-pack side and are going to be a wildcard this season, at least until they get Sam Walker back in the halves, in my opinion.

The true concern for the Roosters is their pack and their go-forward. They rank second in linebreaks which should see them ranked high in total run metres, but that is not the case. The Roosters rank 12th with an average of 1372.6 metres gained per game, while also ranking 11th in opposition run metres.

The Dolphins failed to back up their big win against the Melbourne Storm by blowing a 28-10 half time lead against the Raiders, going down 40-28.

After the first 40 minutes the chatter was all about the Dolphins being the real deal in 2025, but the match turned on its head quickly with the Redcliff-based side being starved of possession 61%-39% and more-so the territory 70%-30% in the second half.

Are the Dolphins the team that played in the first 40 or the second 40, that is the tough call. I think there has been enough evidence recently this season to say that Kristian Woolf’s side had a lapse in the second half and will return to be a disciplined defensive side.
