In the NRL 2025 Round 24, St George Illawarra Dragons are predicted to upset the New Zealand Warriors at home. Despite a challenging season, the Dragons have shown impressive form against top teams, winning pivotal matches and maintaining resilience in close losses. Meanwhile, the Warriors struggle with key player injuries, affecting their scoring and defense. With current momentum, it's a strategic bet to take the Dragons on the moneyline and consider over their Team Total, especially with Tyrell Sloan in form, scoring in 4 of his last 5 games.

St George Illawarra are tipped to upset the Warriors at home this weekend making up for the 1 pt loss earlier in the season.

The Dragons have only won 2 games on the road this season but their last 3 losses and 5 of their 8 in total have been by 6 pts or less. They have been pulling together as a team each and every week and the win against Cronulla last weekend will do wonders for the confidence of the team.

New Zealand went down to the Dogs in terrible conditions last weekend but it is unmistakable how much they are missing a game manager. Their scoring has dried up, averaging just 19 pts per game since Metcalf went down and their defence is also starting to falter giving up 21 pts per game to opponents over their last 5 games, 7th in the league.

The Dragons have been punching above their weight and have done well to get up in games against top ranked opponents. Of all the teams in the bottom 9, they have the 2nd best record against top 8 teams. Expect them to come out firing in this one, upsetting the Wahs on their home turf.

Take St George Illawarra to win on the moneyline and to go Over their Team Total. Tyrell Sloan has taken advantage of good Dragons form scoring in 4 of his last 5 games.

  • St George have played well against top 8 teams this season, the Warriors have won just 2 of their last 7 games.
  • The Dragons average 21.6 pts per game away from home this season while the Warriors have allowed 21 pts per game to opponents over their last 5 games.
  • Tyrell Sloan has scored in 4 of his last 5 games.
  • The Warriors have allowed the first try to opponents in 5 of their last 7 games.

Head to Head

It’s an even 5-5 record for these two teams in the head to head matchups since 2019. New Zealand won the clash earlier this season 15-14 and have won 3 of the last 4 including the most recent game at Go Media Stadium.

The Under has hit in 3 straight games and 6 of the last 10 while the winning margin has stayed between 1-12 in 7 of the last 10 games.

New Zealand Warriors Form Analysis

The Warriors injury report just continues to get longer and longer and unfortunately for them it is in key positions. Te Maire Martin took back the halfback role following the underwhelming performances from Tanah Boyd the last few weeks but had an early night against the Dogs following concussion, a game the team ended up losing soundly.

Since losing Luke Metcalf for the season midway through their Rd 17 clash they are 2-4 and average just 19 pts per game in attack. The defence held the Tigers and Knights to low totals but against teams that can put points on they have struggled to limit tries.

They have been good against lower ranked opponents this season, going 9-1 against current bottom 9 teams but their Tryscoring Efficiency is bad. It takes them on average 12 tackles Inside 20m of their opponent to score, ranking them 15th in the league.

New Zealand Warriors Team News

Te Maire Martin is out with concussion which sees Tanah Boyd called back into the team in favour of moving Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad to the halves.

Wayde Egan returns to the dummy half role which sees Sam Healey revert to the bench and Freddy Lussick to 18th man.

Kurt Capewell will miss the game with concussion as well with Leka Halasima joining the starting side and Eddie Ieremia-Toeava called up to the bench.

St George Illawarra Dragons Form Analysis

The Dragons bullied the Sharks into submission last weekend, winning 22-14 at home in a derby thriller. With the majority of the points scored in the first half the Dragons were able to maximise their time with the ball making sure to complete their sets and minimise errors.

While still a (long) shot at making the 8, their season is effectively over but they are still building a name for themselves as Giant Killers with wins this season against Melbourne, Manly, Brisbane, Canberra and now Cronulla to top things off.

They don’t get much Territory, ranked 16th in the league, but when they do get a chance to put points on the board they can generally deliver. They are also ranked highly in goal line defence, allowing a try for every 11.9 tackles, 3rd best in the NRL.
