Cronulla Sharks vs Gold Coast Titans NRL Tips - Sharks to cover at home

In NRL Round 24, the Cronulla Sharks face off against the Gold Coast Titans. Despite the Sharks' inconsistent season, they are expected to dominate based on recent history. The Sharks have been victorious 10 times in their last 11 encounters with the Titans, and they aim to maintain this streak. While games between these teams are typically low-scoring, expect a strong performance from Teig Wilton as an anytime tryscorer. Both teams have made significant changes due to injuries, affecting player availability and strategies.

Cronulla Sharks vs Gold Coast Titans, NRL Round 24 - Expert Prediction

The Sharks are far from trustworthy, but Craig Fitzgibbon's side are backed to extend their recent dominance over the Titans when the two teams clash to launch Super Saturday in the Shire.

Cronulla saw their four-game winning streak snapped at the hands of the Dragons last week, which leaves them with some work to do in order to lock up a finals spot - although they have a favourable run home with this game against the Titans, another vs the lowly Knights and the bye.

Although the Sharks have been patchy all season, I can't see them slipping up in a home game against the last-placed Titans, who once again disappointed against an injury-ravaged Souths side after promising previous performances against the Warriors and Panthers.

Cronulla's last two wins over Gold Coast have been by 44 & 30 points, so they are tipped to cover a -9.5 line at Shark Park. You'd think games between these sides would typically be high-scoring, but incredibly, all 28 previous meetings have gone under the total points line set of 51.5. For some value, take Teig Wilton to cross for the Sharks on the left edge.

  • Sharks have won 10 of the last 11 meetings between the teams
  • Sharks have won by 44 & 30 points in their last two wins vs Titans
  • Sharks have covered a -9.5 line in seven of their last nine wins this season
  • All 28 previous games between these teams have seen Under 51.5 total points dating back to 2007
  • Sharks have seen Under 51.5 points in five of their last six games
  • Titans have seen Under 51.5 points in four of their last five games
  • Teig Wilton has scored a try in two of his last four games, while second-rowers have scored three tries in Cronulla's last two wins over Gold Coast

Head To Head

Cronulla have been dominant in recent meetings with Gold Coast, winning 10 of the last 11 games between the sides. This will be their first encounter of 2025, with the Sharks crushing the Titans 44-0 in their last contest in Round 23 of last year.

Cronulla Sharks Form Analysis

I feel like the Sharks have gone backwards this season. They'll still most likely feature in the finals, but once again they are flat-track bullies, registering just two wins over current top eight teams.

However, now Cronulla are stumbling more against the lesser teams in 2025 - case in point their last-start 22-14 defeat to the Dragons.

Nicho Hynes simply hasn't justified his price tag over the last couple of years and needs to do more as the halfback and leader of his team.

Cronulla Sharks Team News

More bad news for Cronulla after their loss to the Dragons, with star second-rower Briton Nikora out suspended until the finals and Jesse Ramien sidelined with injury.

Mawene Hiroti goes to centre and Billy Burns starts in the second row, while Jesse Coquhuon and Daniel Atkinson are the new names on the bench.

Gold Coast Titans Form Analysis

It's been classic Titans over the last month.

Lose to the lowly Tigers, beat the top four Warriors, push four-time reigning premiers Penrith to golden point and then lose to a Rabbitohs side missing more than half of their first grade team at home.

It seems like nothing will ever change on the Gold Coast and the club are now in danger of finishing last after losing 'Spoon Bowl' 20-18 to Souths last week.

The Titans are conceding 29 points per game this season, which is obviously the main area of concern and something that renders their flashes of brilliance in attack ultimately useless.

Gold Coast Titans Team News

Some big ins for the Titans here, with Tino Fa'asuamaleaui returning after three games out with a knee injury, while Phil Sami (concussion) and Moeaki Fotuaika (illness) are also back on deck.

Klese Haas and Reagan Campbell-Gillard move to the bench, while Brian Kelly is out with concussion.

Verdict

The Sharks should cover in a must-win home game against the last-placed Titans, but contrary to belief, games between these teams have always been relatively low-scoring.
