Decimated by injuries this season, the Rabbitohs have never thrown in the towel and their effort was rewarded with a win over the Titans last week, snapping a nine-game losing streak. Meanwhile, the Eels have certainly aimed up over the last few weeks, beating the Broncos at Suncorp, pushing the Storm all the way in a narrow defeat and edging out the Cowboys 19-18 last week.

Both sides have proven they are up for a scrap despite languishing at the wrong end of the ladder, so I'm backing a close contest here, with either team winning by a 1-12 margin offering decent value. I think Mitch Moses and his kicking game/experience in the halves could prove the difference in the dying stages, just as it did last week when he kicked the winning field goal.

As expected, not much value going around for Alex Johnston and Josh Addo-Carr in the anytime tryscorer market, with the former just three tries away from equaling Ken Irvine's record. Bayleigh Bentley-Hape looks to be the value bet when it comes to backline players here.

  • Eels' last three games have been decided by six points or less
  • Two of Rabbitohs' last three games have been decided by exactly two points
  • Eels have won six of their last seven games against bottom nine teams
  • The Rabbitohs' starting left winger has scored at least one try in their last three games (Bayleigh Bentley-Hape)

Head To Head

South Sydney have won eight of their last nine games against Parramatta, including comfortable 42-26 and 32-16 victories in 2024. This will be the first meeting between the teams in 2025.

South Sydney Rabbitohs Form Analysis

It's been a nightmare season for the Rabbitohs, who have endured one of the worst injury tolls we've ever seen in the NRL.

However, with the likes of Latrell Mitchell, Jamie Humphreys and Brandon Smith back on deck last week, the Bunnies looked a different team and they edged out an in-form Titans side on the road 20-18.

That victory snapped a nine-game losing run for Wayne Bennett's side and another win here would go a long way to ensuring they avoid the wooden spoon.

South Sydney Rabbitohs Team News

Just the one change for Souths, with Lachlan Hubner out with concussion and replaced by Shaquai Mitchell, who is featuring in the NRL for the first time this season. Cody Walker has been named in the reserves as he edges closer to a return from a hamstring injury.

Parramatta Eels Form Analysis

No surprise that the Eels' upturn in form has coincided with the return of Mitch Moses, who is instrumental to the team's success.

Who knows, if Moses was available at the start of the season and didn't suffer that injury during NSW Origin camp, then Parramatta could easily be challenging for a place in the finals right now.

In any case, the Eels are playing well at the moment - they have taken the scalp of a full-strength Broncos side at Suncorp, played the Storm extremely close and toughed out a gritty win over the Cowboys last week, with Josh Addo-Carr continues his red-hot form to cross for a double.

Parramatta are also getting the job done against the lesser teams, winning six of their last seven vs bottom nine sides this season.

Parramatta Eels Team News

Jason Ryles has named the same team that beat North Queensland last week, with fullback Isaiah Iongi named in the reserves as he nears a return from a hand injury.

Verdict

This should be a tight contest if recent games by these sides are any indication.

Think Moses proves the difference in the halves, so backing the Eels to edge it, with Bayleigh Bentley-Hape crossing for a meat pie.
