Some encouraging jump-out work preceded El Camero’s debut, including a 1000m win in testing conditions at Bendigo last month.

The youngster then finished a solid seventh over 1347m at Geelong 10 days later, where he jumped from a wide barrier and over-raced through the middle stages after being restrained.

While he was unable to trouble the principals, the gelding stayed on reasonably well in the straight, and there has already been some substance added to the form with the eighth placegetter subsequently running well in defeat at Seymour.

Jason Warren’s representative handled a Soft 7 surface on debut and should have no issues with the firmer conditions expected here.

The son of Shamus Award now draws an inside barrier and, with natural improvement expected from that first race-day experience, he rates as a value chance to break through at start two.

Sale Roughie - Race 3 No. 9 Jupiter’s Girl

Previous Sale form gives Jupiter’s Girl some appeal at a price, including a runner-up finish over 1429m here in April after racing on speed.

The mare started at big odds from an inside barrier on that occasion and has since been ridden with more restraint in two runs over 1100m this preparation.

She improved in the latest of those when finishing seventh, beaten three-and-a-half lengths on a Soft 6 after drawing wide and racing four deep without cover for much of the journey.

The five-year-old draws better in barrier five here and Damien Thornton should have a much easier task finding cover.

The rise back in distance looks suitable and, while others bring more obvious claims, Jupiter’s Girl has enough track form and improvement to be capable of causing an upset.

No. 1 Car Wash BM62 Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Sale Best Bet - Race 5 No. 2 Wetumpka

Wetumpka showed a liking for Sale when breaking his maiden over 1427m here at the start of March.

The gelding scored narrowly as favourite on a Heavy surface in that four-runner affair before producing two competitive performances at metropolitan level.

The better of those came at Sandown in April, where he finished fourth over 1600m in a Benchmark 66 and was beaten less than five lengths.

The son of Alabama Express has trialled well ahead of his return and has also shown he can perform fresh, having finished runner-up in both previous first-up appearances.

Ben Allen has ridden this track particularly well in 2026 with seven wins from 24 rides at a 29% strike rate, and from an inside barrier he looks well placed to give Peter Gelagotis’ four-year-old every chance.

Sale Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 6 Crocodile

A metropolitan Sandown winner last preparation for the Ben, Will and JD Hayes stable, Crocodile made a promising debut for Ciaron Maher at Sale last month.

Competing at Benchmark 62 level, the gelding produced a solid first-up effort when finishing second from a wide barrier and going down by less than half a length over 1200m.

He stayed on well in that performance and the extra distance looks suitable, while he should also have derived plenty of fitness benefit from the run.

Although the form from that Soft-track event has not worked out particularly strongly, Crocodile is expected to have the race run to suit and any downgrade in conditions would be no concern.

Apprentice Jabez Johnstone’s claim is another positive and, second-up with a suitable setup, Crocodile looks capable of recording the third win of his career.
