Race 8 No. 5 Intriguing State

Kasey Wilson’s runner returned from a spell with a dominant three-length maiden win over 1000m at Bairnsdale in July. She handled the soft track well that day and has since proven competitive against winners, placing second in both subsequent starts.

The first of those came when beaten just under a length-and-a-half in a Benchmark 58 handicap over 1000m, while her most recent run saw her finish a narrow runner-up over 1200m on the Pakenham synthetic.

A good track here won’t be an issue, and from barrier eight, with Thomas Stockdale sticking, she looks well placed to record a deserved second career victory.

Race 4 No. 2 Blue Bandit

A $200,000 Inglis Gold Yearling Sale purchase, Blue Bandit had just one jump-out prior to debuting earlier this month. Gelded after placing third in that February trial, he was sent out a $21 chance when stepping out for the first time at Mornington.

The son of Blue Point showed ability on debut, leading and boxing on strongly to finish third, beaten just over a length on a soft 5 track by two more experienced rivals.

John Leek Jr’s gelding is expected to derive plenty of benefit from that outing. From a double-figure draw he should push forward again and is a strong chance of breaking through.

Race 2 No. 6 Dragon Scroll

There has been strong early support for the Clayton Douglas-trained debutante, with Dragon Scroll firming from $10 into $5 with Unibet Australia to sit as the second market elect.

The filly was spelled after a pair of jump-outs in the autumn and has since returned with three public hit-outs through August and September.

Stats Say:

Ethan Brown currently leads the State Jockey Premiership and boasts a 29% strike-rate (14 from 48) when riding at country meetings this season.

He takes two key rides at this meeting, both of which are likely to start favourite.

Kiwi Raider resumes for Mark Walker in Race 2 after placing on debut at Mornington, while Omamori, an impressive maiden winner here earlier this month, lines up in Race 7.
