Warwick Farm Tips June 3
Drinkwise Plate Tips (Race 2)
Warwick Farm Roughie - Race 2 No. 1 Beneath The Rock
A half-sister to three-time Group 1 winner Invincible Gem, Beneath The Rock arrives off a solid debut performance on May 15, and we were with the Kris Lees-trained filly at a long price in that 1100m Scone attempt, where she overcame some trouble for a third-place finish.
Both a low draw and the rise in distance appear positives on Wednesday.
There also looked to be good depth to that May 15 affair, which was taken out by Cormier, a smart juvenile who was runner-up to Tron Bolt on Saturday, a youngster who is the Group 1 JJ Atkins favourite.
Dr Hook was second in that Scone race and had already been tested in some very handy company.
That includes three Group race performances over summer and early autumn.
Asahi Super Dry Handicap Tips (Race 4)
Warwick Farm Best Bet - Race 4 No. 2 Hovland
The main query is staying at 1600m third-up.
However, he has never finished outside of the placings in four tries over this distance, with blinkers replacing winkers here after a good chasing third over this track-and-trip on May 20.
Hovland was the only runner to come from off the speed in an otherwise on-speed dominated race that day.
That followed a good return, again over the Warwick Farm mile, when overcoming some trouble in restricted room as runner-up on a Good 4 surface, and he appears equally effective on both firm and rain-affected tracks.
Hovland was a big third-up winner last winter and has found a suitable assignment to bring up win number three.
Hyland Race Colours Handicap Tips (Race 6)
Warwick Farm Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 3 Black Babylon
Following a pass mark on return in stronger company, we were with Black Babylon at an each-way price on the May 20 program at Warwick Farm.
The Archibald-trained galloper was terrific in second, coming from back in the field and being forced to sustain a wide run.
A fitter winner in So Suave settled in the box seat and never went around a horse.
There was plenty of merit to that performance, especially given the sharp rise in trip there second-up, which he will only strip fitter from.
The four-year-old did bolt in third-up last campaign over 2200m and remains lightly raced, while with any improvement on Wednesday he should be going close under Tom Sherry, who has ridden 12 winners for the Archibald stable this season.
Irresistible Pools And Spas Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Warwick Farm Value Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Winston Hills
There were excuses first-up at Canterbury when Winston Hills covered ground despite being respected in the market.
Off a colder ride second-up at Gosford, he finished off well, recording the fastest last 200m of that Saturday BM78.
He remained in that grade at Randwick on May 23 when failing, although the six-year-old simply did not handle the testing Heavy 10 surface.
That effort is easy to forgive, especially if there is an upgrade or two on the current Heavy 8 rating for Wednesday's event, where he drops in grade and gets handy relief after the 2kg claim from Siena Grima.
He saluted at his latest attempt at this track, trip and distance last preparation, a success that also came fourth-up and with 1kg more than he has here.
