Wong Nai Chung Gap Handicap Tips (Race 3)
Happy Valley Favourite - Race 3 No. 1 Young Arrow
He's got a very good record in this grade, with Young Arrow finishing in the money in all three Class 4 attempts, which includes a victory just over 12 months ago with the same impost that he carries this evening.
The Douglas Whyte-trained galloper came back to this level two starts back on April 22, when unlucky in third after finding trouble at a key stage in the straight.
A wide barrier proved costly in the latest, yet he still finished on well for third as the only runner out wide to make any inroads from off the speed in that May 13 contest.
Not only does he draw kinder this evening, but a 3kg weight swing in his favour from Leading Agility from that last clash is a big positive.
That key threat now draws outside of him.
Middle Gap Handicap Tips (Race 4)
Happy Valley Value Bet - Race 4 No. 8 Savvy Warrior
This five-year-old briefly looked the winner when an inside gap presented on the May 13 program, where perhaps fitness just gave out late with Savvy Warrior.
He was six weeks between runs second-up and stepping up from 1200m to 1650m.
Savvy Warrior should only strip fitter now third-up from a break, especially with that recent track-and-trip run under his belt.
Although never in contention fresh over 1200m, that Sha Tin All-Weather return was certainly a pass mark.
He was thereabouts in stronger company last season, while rising to this distance proved the key in his last campaign when contesting two good form races in November and December, both over the Happy Valley 1650m.
The Cricket Club Valley Stakes Tips (Race 5)
Happy Valley Best Bet - Race 5 No. 7 Brownneedsfurther
It was a terrific last-start effort from Brownneedsfurther, with the David Hall-trained galloper settling back in that May 20 contest and getting home strongly for a half-length defeat in second.
He probably wins that race with a better gate after spotting his rivals a start before charging home late.
The barriers are in his favour this evening, with the four-year-old now jumping from barrier three and champion jockey Zac Purton taking the reins.
That latest effort followed a competitive Sha Tin appearance, where he again showed enough to suggest a breakthrough win was not far away.
Brownneedsfurther is still searching for that first victory, while his final Happy Valley run before a freshen-up produced a runner-up finish behind Giant Ballon, who franked the form by completing a hat-trick in stronger company at his next start.
Shouson Hill Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Happy Valley Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 10 Ace Champion
There is still plenty of upside with the lightly raced Ace Champion, who was sold to Hong Kong after an impressive debut victory in Ireland in November 2024.
The gelding has now completed six runs for the Pierre Ng stable.
His Happy Valley resumption on February 4 had merit after settling back in an awkward position before making ground in restricted room in a 1000m event.
Ace Champion then arguably should have won second-up when stepping to 1200m here on March 11, before a wide gate proved costly on April 8.
There appears less depth overall here than in the Class 3 he contested at Sha Tin on May 9, and he brings a decent fitness base despite a somewhat spaced-out preparation.
Violet Hill Handicap Tips (Race 9)
Happy Valley Roughie - Race 9 No. 8 Casa Rochester
Ahead of the June 3 program, Mark Newnham sits third on the Hong Kong Trainers' Premiership with 55 wins, just three off the lead.
The last of his seven runners this evening is Casa Rochester, who was never threatening on return but still made good inroads from the rear for a fifth-of-12 finish.
The lightly raced five-year-old won over this track-and-trip last season before working his way up in grade.
Four of his last five Class 3 attempts suggest a win is within reach in this company.
Although drawn wide once again, he is a galloper who likes to get back and build momentum late, so it is not a major disadvantage, and while he will need luck in running, he is worth including at a big price in the last.
