Sandown Tips June 3

Sportsbet Blackbook Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Sandown Best Bet - Race 3 No. 2 Oak Beach

It's getting close to D-Day for Oak Beach, and with a 2000m run completed third-up at Pakenham last start, there should not be any excuses for the four-year-old on Wednesday.

The daughter of Fiorente is now back against her own sex after being unsuited when back and off the speed at Pakenham in a slowly run affair last time, yet she still made some inroads.

That followed a metropolitan sixth-of-14 finish at Bendigo, where she started favourite after a brave return on the Sandown Lakeside circuit when sticking on gamely in a fast-run affair.

The fresh performance perhaps left her a shade flat second-up, however she was only beaten just over two lengths in a race won by Seafall, who has since saluted in much stronger company.

Oak Beach also won fourth-up last campaign over 2000m.

Sandown Value Bet - Race 6 No. 8 Brilliant Horizon

You have to put a line through her Sandown Lakeside flop on January 18 when in the market for a BM66, with Brilliant Horizon pulling up with cardiac arrhythmia before subsequently being spelled.

The mare has won two May jump-outs leading into this preparation, with the latest a comfortable victory on rain-affected ground.

She was also a stylish winner in her only Soft-track appearance on debut earlier in the season.

Exposed form suggests she could be the best horse in this field, which was evident in the second-up Mornington attempt on December 17 when she was an unlucky runner-up behind Esmahli.

Esmahli won her next start in Sydney, while third-placed Torsheen has also franked that form with three subsequent wins, including a Saturday metropolitan success, and was Group 3 placed in March.

Evergreen Turf Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Sandown Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 10 Astiquer

This Hayes-trained filly was an impressive Cranbourne debut winner on April 24 before contesting what looks a hot Class 1 at Bendigo on May 13.

Only two runners have emerged from that race so far, but one of them was the winner Clevor Trever, who franked the form with a Saturday metropolitan victory at Caulfield last week.

Astiquer was the pick of the closers in that 1300m affair, getting home with the fastest final 200m of the race after being held up.

The rise to seven furlongs looks an ideal progression at start three on Wednesday.

The main unknown is wet ground, although the market may provide some guidance late, as she comes through a strong race and could be the runner in this field with all the upside.

Sportsbet More Places Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Sandown Roughie - Race 8 No. 1 Electric Tommy

Electric Tommy remains lightly raced for a four-year-old and appears to have returned at the right time of year, given he is an out-and-out wet tracker.

The gelding has shown his best form on rain-affected surfaces, including a debut Soft 6 victory in September 2024.

Last winter began with a Soft 7 success carrying a big weight before he bolted in with a BM64 victory at Geelong on July 11 on a Heavy track.

His best metropolitan performance also came on a Soft 7 surface at Caulfield on August 16.

Electric Tommy has completed three autumn jump-outs, with the latest clearly the pick when catching the eye late for second at Mornington on May 27, and the key factor there was again a Heavy 8 surface.
