Kembla Grange hosts Thursday's eight-race provincial meeting, with a competitive program featuring promising maidens and progressive gallopers.

Several runners look well placed with favourable race conditions, while a number of key form lines are expected to be tested.

Kembla Grange Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 4 Glissando

This Godolphin filly is well bred, with the daughter of Too Darn Hot a half-sister to 2019 Thousand Guineas winner Flit.

Off a pair of June trials that were much better than they read, we gave Glissando an each-way sniff at double-figure odds for her debut assignment at Randwick-Kensington.

While the June 1 performance was only even to the eye, the Chris Waller-trained youngster found herself back in a very slowly run race and, although she didn't have the brilliance to let down when required, Glissando still recorded the second-fastest final 200m of the entire program.

Not only is there natural improvement to come from that first race-day outing, but the rise in distance and the kinder draw for Thursday's assignment are also positives, while she finds a weaker affair back in provincial company.

Scratched from a tougher Warwick Farm maiden on Wednesday after drawing a wide barrier, this shapes as the better set-up.

Kembla Grange Best Bet - Race 6 No. 1 Aethelwulf

From the same family as 2012 Sydney Cup winner Mourayan is Aethelwulf, who was spelled after an encouraging debut second behind Sunsprite, a filly who has since won again and has also been competitive multiple times in Saturday metropolitan company.

The three-year-old justified favouritism with a superb return triumph at Newcastle on June 6, coming from off the speed in a small field to bolt in over seven furlongs.

That win saw him backed into prohibitive odds second-up and, while he lost as a $1.28 market elect, it'd be brave to sack the gelding off that June 27 effort, where staying at 1400m worked against him, as did getting back in a slowly run race where he was left flat-footed.

Also, that last event was run on more testing ground and he'll be on a firmer track here, while the first and second home have both won their next starts.

He can atone, with the logical threat being Cheval De Bois, who is building towards a peak and receives a drop in class third-up.

Cactus Imaging BM64 Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Kembla Grange Value Bet - Race 7 No. 7 Still Alice

An honest sprinter over these shorter trips, Still Alice resumed with a solid half-length defeat when fourth in a Hawkesbury Benchmark 64 on June 4.

She has been freshened for this second-up attempt, where firmer going will be in her favour.

The daughter of Epaulette was mostly prepared with gaps between runs last campaign, where the highlight was a Gosford win over Inoue, a galloper who was then competitive in Saturday metropolitan company before a stable switch and a big first-up victory for Richard Litt at Canterbury last Wednesday.

She has a second-up triumph to her name over this distance, while there was also significant improvement shown from the first-up sixth last preparation when placing at her next attempt.

There's a lack of standouts in this field, with Century Song well down in grade and favourite, although he was plain at Rosehill and may want it wetter, while from a low draw under Jeff Penza, Still Alice should be be able to settle close to the speed.
