Penrith Panthers vs Brisbane Broncos, Round 20 2026 - Expert Prediction


Brisbane +14.5 is the best bet at CommBank Stadium, with the Broncos also backed to clear 14.5 points and Casey McLean the tryscorer play for Penrith in the anytime and first tryscorer markets.

Penrith deserve to be strong favourites, but the line has reached a point where Brisbane do not need to get particularly close to cash. A two-converted-try defeat still gets the job done, and this is a very different Broncos side to the one that has been limping through the past two months.

The Broncos have Reece Walsh, Ezra Mam, Adam Reynolds, Payne Haas, Pat Carrigan and Brendan Piakura all returning, which is a serious injection through the spine and middle. Their finals hopes are realistically gone, and that can sometimes free up a side that has been carrying the weight of expectation all season.

Penrith are also getting key men back, with Nathan Cleary, Isaah Yeo, Liam Martin and Isaiah Papali'i named alongside Casey McLean, but that does not automatically make this a blowout. Brisbane's defence has been the problem, not a complete lack of attacking threat, and 14.5 points is a low enough team total with their main playmakers restored.

McLean is the Penrith tryscorer angle. He returns at centre and lands in the NRL's top-ranked attack against a Brisbane edge defence that has been there to be worked over. If Penrith are going to cover the scoreboard, their outside backs should be right in the middle of it.

Brisbane have lost eight straight and the defensive numbers are ugly, with the Broncos conceding 34 points per game across that skid. Their last five tell the same story, with 17.8 points scored and 31.6 conceded per game, and they rank 14th for points allowed.

The reason to keep them onside is personnel. Walsh, Mam, Reynolds, Haas, Carrigan and Piakura all return, which gives Brisbane back their attacking shape and enough middle strength to avoid being completely bullied.
