The Scorchers top order is the most clinical in the BBL with Aaron Hardie (176 runs), Cooper Connolly (174 runs) Finn Allen (165 runs) Mitch Marsh (164 runs) and Ashton Turner (164 runs) all able to turn a match on its head no matter the situation. All five have had an innings of 77 runs or more and have individually won matches for their team.
The weakness is with the ball with only Joel Paris an all out bowler. The left arm quick has 10 wickets which is good for the fifth most in the series, however it is the allrounders like Connolly and Hardie that are required to get breakthroughs against opposing batting lineups.
Melbourne Renegades Form
The ‘Gades pulled off a miracle in their Melbourne derby, beating the Stars with 1 ball remaining, after needing 13 off the final over by Marcus Stoinis.
Will Sutherland was the late hero with 19 runs from just 7 balls in the critical overs, however, it was Josh Brown that laid the platform and put the Renegades in a winnable position with his 84 off 48 balls.
Credit also has to go to the bowling attack of the Renegades, keeping the Stars to just 8.65 runs per over, getting key wickets and denying any of the opposition to score higher than 38 runs.
It was a much needed win for the Renegades who had just one win in their opening 4 matches. With 5 matches remaining the ‘Gades will need to almost win out to ensure a finals berth.
