Brisbane will bounce back with a win over Fremantle in the west in Round 23.

The Lions suffered a shock two-point loss against Sydney last weekend, putting some slight doubt on their finals hopes. They now sit in 5th spot on the ladder and behind the Dockers, who are in 4th spot.

Fremantle survived a scare from Port Adelaide, edging past the Power by six points after a clutch mark and goal from their skipper, Alex Pearce, late in the game.

Brisbane will be desperate to respond and they’re primed to lift. Despite the result, the Lions dominated key stats like clearances, inside 50s, and contested ball — all signs their game is still in good order.

With a list filled with players who’ve stood up on big stages — including last year’s Grand Final triumph — they bring the kind of hardened edge that Fremantle may struggle to match when it matters most.

While the Dockers have been strong at Optus and sit just above Brisbane on the ladder, this is a different challenge.

The midfield contest will be pivotal, and this is where Brisbane still hold a slight edge in depth — even without Lachie Neale. Will Ashcroft is peaking at the right time, and the Lions’ ability to rotate multiple ball-winners through the middle gives them the flexibility to match Fremantle’s Serong-Brayshaw one-two punch.

In attack, Logan Morris is in great form but Charlie Cameron looms large — he’s kicked 2+ in four of his past five against the Dockers and is always a threat at ground level.

For Fremantle, Caleb Serong continues to rack up numbers and looks great value to hit 30+ disposals again. It’s a finals-shaping clash, but expect the wounded Lions to bite back.

  • Brisbane have won three of their past four against top eight sides.
  • The Lions have won their past three outside of Queensland, including wins over Collingwood and Geelong
  • Charlie Cameron has kicked 2+ goals in four of his past five against the Dockers
  • Caleb Serong had 46 disposals the last time the two sides met.

Head to Head

The two sides have not met since Round 1 last season and it was the Dockers by 23 points at Optus Stadium with Jye Amiss kicking four goals and Caleb Serong picking up a whopping 46 disposals. The Dockers have won two of their past three against the Lions at the venue.

Serong has had 35+ in his past two against the Lions and 30+ in four of his past five. Andrew Brayshaw has averaged 32.5 disposals from his past four. Brisbane’s Lachie Neale has had 25+ disposals in his past five against his former side. Charlie Cameron has kicked 2+ goals in four of his past five against the Dockers.

Brisbane have won five of their past seven matches and have won three of their past four against sides in the top half of the ladder, while they have won their past three outside of Queensland.

In the past five rounds, the Lions rank in the top three in the competition for disposals, clearances and inside 50s. Finishing off has been a slight issue, with the Lions ranking 11th for goals per inside 50 in that period. They led the clearance count (40-21) and inside 50s (65-52) against the Swans but let the game split.

Logan Morris kicked three goals last weekend, taking his season tally to 40 from 19 matches. He has nine from the past two rounds. Lachie Neale is out with injury but the Lions had six players that had 25+ disposals last weekend, including Will Ashcroft with 31.
