Victoria Mboko, an 18-year-old Canadian tennis sensation, is set to face Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the quarter-finals of the Canada Open. Mboko has achieved a remarkable breakout season, becoming the youngest Canadian quarter-finalist at a WTA 1000 event since 1987, and recently defeated top seed Coco Gauff. Bouzas Maneiro also has made strides, achieving a career-high ranking and advancing to her first WTA 1000 quarter-final. It's been an extraordinary breakout season for Mboko and it just keeps getting better and better after the 18-year-old became the youngest Canadian quarter-finalist in Montreal or Toronto since 1987. Mboko also became the fifth-youngest player to defeat a top seed at a WTA 1000 event when she demolished Coco Gauff in straight sets in the R16. Now, Mboko has a fantastic draw and opportunity to extend her dream run into the semi-finals.

Bouzaz Maneiro isn't an opponent to be taken lightly, but you certainly wouldn't be complaining pre-tournament if you saw her name against you in the quarter-finals of a WTA 1000 event. The Spaniard has been fortunate to receive an extremely soft draw, with three of her four opponents ranked outside the top 100 - but you can only beat who's in front of you. However, Mboko is a special talent and she's proven she's not going to be overawed by this situation - I'm backing the youngster to record another straight sets win to reach the final four.

Head To Head

This will be the first career meeting between the pair.

Victoria Mboko Form

Mboko has put together a phenomenal season, winning 50 of her 59 matches at all levels and rising from No. 284 at the end of 2024 to a current live ranking of No. 55.

The 18-year-old showcased glimpses of her immense talent by taking sets off the likes of Gauff and Paula Badosa earlier in the season, making the third round of Roland Garros and the second round of Wimbledon.

However, this is the true breakout event of Mboko's young career - she's won four tour-level matches in a row for the first time and into her maiden WTA 1000 quarter-final.

Mboko defeated Kim Birrell and Sofia Kenin in straight sets before overcoming nerves to outlast Marie Bouzkova in three sets. The teenager then produced a stunning display to crush top seed Coco Gauff 6-1 6-4 in a little over an hour to make the last eight.

Jessica Bouzas Maneiro Form

Bouzas Maneiro has compiled a 22-16 record at all levels in 2025 and is having a superb tournament herself to crack the top 50 for the first time at No. 43 in the live rankings.

The Spaniard has taken her game to the next level over the last couple of months, making the third round of Roland Garros and the fourth round of Wimbledon, highlighting her ability to play on all surfaces.

Playing her first hardcourt event of the summer, Bouzas Maneiro has taken advantage of her draw opening up, beating three players ranked outside the top 100 (Louisa Chirico, Aoi Ito and Lin Zhu), along with World No. 29 Ashlyn Krueger.

Bouzas Manerio has advanced into her first WTA 1000 quarter-final and she will think this is a good draw herself to continue her outstanding tournament into the semis.
