In a thrilling Canada Open quarter-final matchup, Elina Svitolina faces off against Naomi Osaka for the first time since 2019. Both players bring formidable form into the match, with Svitolina registering consistent performances leading up to this event and Osaka returning to her best tennis form. Despite Osaka's slight edge in their head-to-head battle and her recent victories, Svitolina's resilience makes this contest unpredictable. Fans can enjoy live streaming of the game, bringing world-class tennis action directly to their screens as these titans duel in Montreal.

Elina Svitolina vs Naomi Osaka Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Elina Svitolina and Naomi Osaka clash for just the second time since 2019 when they square off for a place in the Canada Open semi-finals on Tuesday night in Montreal.

Both players have produced some brilliant tennis to advance into the last eight in Montreal, with Osaka dropping just one set and Svitolina winning all three of her matches in straights. It's the first time Osaka has advanced to the quarter-finals of a WTA 1000 tournament in 19 months, with her 49-minute 6-1 6-0 thumping of Anastasija Sevastova in the previous round the second-quickest victory of her career. Meanwhile, Svitolina registered her fourth top 10 scalp of 2025 after easing past Wimbledon finalist Amanda Anisimova in straight sets in the R16.

I think this will be a tight contest. Svitolina is always so hard to break down, while Osaka is playing arguably her best tennis since returning to the tour. Osaka has won four of the six previous meetings between the pair, so as the underdog, I'm happy to back the former World No. 1 to continue her resurgent tournament.

Head To Head

Osaka leads 4-3, but the Japanese has won the last two meetings in straight sets - at 2019 Indian Wells and the most-recent clash at Miami 2024.

Elina Svitolina Form

It's been a supremely consistent season for Svitolina - she's compiled a 35-11 record, consistently going deep in big tournaments and building her ranking up to No. 13 in the world.

Svitolina made the quarter-finals of the Australian Open and Indian Wells before putting together a strong clay swing, winning the title in Rouen, making the semi-finals in Madrid and the quarter-finals at both Rome and Roland Garros.

The Ukrainian suffered a somewhat disappointing third round exit at Wimbledon to Elise Mertens, but she's bounced back with another deep run in Montreal to reach the quarter-finals.

Svitolina is a former Canada Open champion in 2017 and was also a semi-finalist in 2018 before reaching the quarters in 2019. The 30-year-old has returned to the last eight this week with straight sets victories over Kamila Rakhimova, Anna Kalinskaya and Amanda Anisimova, dropping just 14 games combined.

Naomi Osaka Form

Osaka has registered a 24-11 record on the year and comes into this contest playing her best tennis in recent memory.

The four-time major champion was playing this sort of tennis at the start of the year when she made the Auckland final, but injury surfaced and she was forced to retire.

It's taken Osaka while to get back into the swing of things, but it's all coming together this week in Montreal.

Osaka has dropped just one set in four matches to make her first WTA 1000 quarter-final in 19 months, registering big wins over Liudmila Samsonova and Jelena Ostapenko before a statement 6-1 6-0 demolition of Anastasija Sevastova in just 49 minutes.

Verdict

Both players are in great form, but Osaka as a four-time major champion and former No. 1 obviously has the higher ceiling - so if she plays close to her best, she's the favourite in my eyes.

Backing three sets and for Osaka to edge it.
