Rybakina has improved her form over the last couple of months, registering a 17-5 record since winning the title in Strasbourg in May, while Kostyuk snapped a six-match losing streak in Montreal, recapturing some of her best tennis to make a nice run into the quarter-finals. Now, both players have an a fantastic opportunity to make a WTA 1000 semi-final - who takes their chance?

I've got to lean with Rybakina - she's absolutely crushed Kostyuk in their last two hardcourt meetings without losing more than two games in a set, while the Ukrainian was in terrible form before this tournament and has needed three sets in all of her matches to make an unlikely run to the quarter-finals. Rybakina is back in some great form herself and I'm tipping the former Wimbledon champion to come through this clash in straights.

Head To Head

Rybakina leads 2-1. Kostyuk prevailed in three sets in their first meeting at Adelaide 2023, but Rybakina was a dominant 6-2 6-1 winner at the US Open later that year before a most-recent 6-2 6-2 victory in the 2024 Stuttgart final.

Elena Rybakina Form

Rybakina comes into this encounter with a 36-14 record on the season and hoping to reclaim a spot inside the top 10 over the coming months, where she barely has any points to defend after injury forced her off tour this time last year.

As you can see, Rybakina has played a lot of matches throughout 2025 and she's starting to get back to her best tennis, winning 17 of her last 22 since picking up her lone title of the year on the clay of Strasbourg.

The Kazakh would have been disappointed with her R16 and third round exits at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, but a semi-final run in Washington to launch her North American hardcourt summer was promising.

Rybakina has built on that result in Montreal, beating Hayley Baptiste and Jaqueline Cristian in straight sets before edging out Dayana Yastremska in three to make the quarter-finals. Rybakina is now one win away from her second semi-final in Montreal after reaching that stage two years ago.

Marta Kostyuk Form

Kostyuk arrived in Montreal with a decidedly average 17-16 record on the season, with her ranking dropping to No. 28 in the world.

After quarter-final and R16 appearances at WTA 1000 events in Madrid and Rome respectively, the wheels fell off for Kostyuk and she went on a six-match losing streak, including opening round eliminations at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

The Ukrainian was also knocked out in the first round of Washington last week by Emma Raducanu, but she's put together a resurgent tournament in Montreal.

Indeed, Kostyuk has won all three of her matches in a deciding set, edging out Marketa Vondrousova, Daria Kasatkina and McCartney Kessler to make the last eight.

Backing another relatively routine win for Rybakina here.
