Gauff has struggled since winning her second Grand Slam title at Roland Garros and won her first match since that triumph in her Montreal opener earlier this year - however, it wasn't pretty at all. You'd struggle to find a match with more unforced errors all year, especially between the World No. 2 and a former top 10 player.

She's made a solid run to the third round herself and recently won the Wimbledon doubles title with Elise Mertens, which should give her some confidence. The Russian also owns a previous win over Gauff. I'm going to back the American to battle and grind her way to another win, but Kudermetova should be able to cover a +5.5 games handicap if Gauff doesn't raise her level considerably.

Gauff leads 2-1, with all three meetings coming in 2023. Kudermetova won their first clash in Doha before Gauff returned serve with a three-set victory in Stuttgart and a 7-6 6-2 triumph in Beijing.

Gauff comes into this encounter with a 32-10 record for the season, but having only won one match since Roland Garros.

The American really saved her season with three tournaments during the clay swing, reaching back-to-back finals in Madrid and Rome before conquering Aryna Sabalenka to win the Roland Garros title.

As you can see, 17 of Gauff's 32 wins for the season came in those three tournaments, highlighting her struggles throughout the majority of 2025.

The World No. 2 suffered opening round exits in Berlin and Wimbledon, while Gauff almost suffered a third loss on the bounce in her Montreal opener.

Indeed, Gauff was two points away from defeat against Danielle Collins before eventually prevailing 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(2) despite serving 23 double faults and making 74 unforced errors.

Kudermetova has registered a 27-18 record so far this season, but is down at No. 42 in the world after previous peaking at No. 9 back in 2022.

The 28-year-old is fairly consistent, but she's struggled going deep into tournaments in 2025, failing to go beyond the quarter-finals at any tournament.

Kudermetova's best results so far this season include a R16 finish at the Australian Open, along with quarter-finals at Hobart and s-Hertogenbosch.

The Russian did pick up the doubles title at Wimbledon alongside Elise Mertens and has been in good form so far in Montreal, defeating Cristina Bucsa in three sets before a dominant 6-4 6-2 victory over Olga Danilovic.
