The ATP Washington final between Taylor Fritz and Rafael Jodar has been postponed to Monday due to rain. All eyes are on Spanish teenager Rafael Jodar, who is favored to upset home favorite Fritz and claim his first ATP 500 title. Fritz enters the match with a poor finals and hardcourt record this season, hampered by knee issues, whereas Jodar is enjoying a breakout year and has been the tournament's standout. The recommendation is to back Jodar to win in three sets in a competitive, high-quality final.

Taylor Fritz vs Rafael Jodar ATP Washington Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Spanish teenage sensation Rafael Jodar is backed to upset home hope Taylor Fritz and secure his maiden ATP 500 title in Washington, with the final postponed to Monday due to persistent rain.

I think Fritz is there for the taking. The American has battled knee tendonitis all year and received treatment throughout the week, battling through his last two matches against Alex Michelsen (saving a match point) and Brandon Nakashima in three sets.

Additionally, Fritz has a 0-3 record in finals this season, along with a 0-4 record against top 25 players on hardcourt. He's lost confidence and there's no doubt he's physically not 100 per cent.

As a result, Jodar has an excellent opportunity to continue what has been an extraordinary breakout year and claim a second ATP title of 2026 - and first at ATP 500 level.

The 19-year-old was ranked outside the top 500 this time last year, but has confirmed a top 20 debut with this run to the Washington final and will rise to as high as No. 12 by taking the title - which I'm backing him to do.

For me, Jodar has been the best player all week in the American capital - he's scored a second top 20 scalp over Lorenzo Musetti and also dispatched Arthur Fils in straight sets. The Spaniard is playing without fear and his powerful game will cause this version of Fritz problems and uncertainty.

I'm taking Over 23.5 total games - this won't be straightforward by any means - with Jodar at the +2.5 start and edging it in three.
  • Fritz has lost his last four ATP finals
  • Fritz is 0-4 vs top 25 players on hardcourt in 2026
  • Jodar has won 20 of his last 25 matches
  • Jodar is 1-0 in ATP finals
  • Fritz has seen Over 22.5 games in his last two matches
  • Jodar has seen Over 22.5 games in his last two matches
  • The only previous meeting between the pair saw Over 22.5 games

Fritz vs Jodar Head To Head

Fritz leads 1-0, prevailing in a tight two-setter in Delray Beach at the start of the year.

Taylor Fritz Form Analysis

  • 2026 ATP Record: 27-13
  • ATP Washington Record: 11-5
  • Current Ranking: No. 10
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 4 (2024)

It's been an injury-disrupted year for Fritz, who has dropped to No. 10 in the rankings.

Fritz has struggled with knee tendonitis, which forced him to skip the majority of the clay swing after some sub-par hardcourt results in the opening quarter of the year.

The American returned to form on grass, reaching the final of Halle and Stuttgart, along with the quarter-finals of Wimbledon.

Fritz has continued his promising resurgence in Washington, although he still remains below his best level.

The 28-year-old cruised past Zizou Bergs and Kamil Majchrzak in straight sets, but had to dig deep to save a match point in a 6-1 3-6 7-6(6) victory over Alex Michelsen before outlasting Brandon Nakashima 6-3 3-6 6-3 in the semi-finals.

Fritz fired down 13 aces and won 80 per cent of first serves points to improve to 4-1 H2H over Nakashima.

Rafael Jodar Form Analysis

  • 2026 ATP Record: 30-11
  • ATP Washington Record: 4-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 24
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 23 (June 2026)

Jodar's rise over the past 12 months has been one of the ATP Tour's biggest success stories, skyrocketing from outside the world's top 500 in August 2025 to a current live ranking of No. 15, which would climb to No. 12 with a title in Washington.

The 19-year-old announced himself with a breakout performance at the 2025 Next Gen ATP Finals before taking his game to another level this season. He captured his maiden ATP title in Marrakech, reached consecutive Masters 1000 quarter-finals in Madrid and Rome, and produced his best Grand Slam result by advancing to the quarter-finals at Roland Garros.

After an exhausting clay-court campaign, Jodar showed signs of fatigue during his grass-court debut at Wimbledon, but still managed to reach the third round before eventually falling to Shintaro Mochizuki.

Back on familiar territory in Washington, where he previously played college tennis at the nearby University of Virginia, Jodar has looked right at home. The Spaniard opened his campaign with an outstanding 7-6, 6-3 victory over Arthur Fils before backing it up with a commanding 6-3, 6-2 win over the retiring Kei Nishikori to book his place in the quarter-finals.

Jodar has been stretched to three sets in his last two matches, claiming a second top 20 scalp by beating Lorenzo Musetti 1-6 6-1 6-4 before a thrilling 6-7(6) 6-4 6-4 win over Alejandro Tabilo in the semi-finals to reach his first ATP 500 final.
