Jannik Sinner is set to face Zizou Bergs in the second round of the Paris Masters. Sinner, who has battled fitness concerns, is coming off a title victory in Vienna and is on a streak of 21 consecutive indoor wins. A win here could see him reclaim the No. 1 ranking, particularly following Carlos Alcaraz’s surprising loss. Meanwhile, Bergs is having a career-best year and will aim to challenge Sinner. Despite potential fitness issues, the prediction leans towards Sinner continuing his impressive form.

Sinner has only ever won one match in his career at the Paris Masters, missing last year's edition due to illness. With the upcoming ATP Finals obviously a big priority, I was wondering how Sinner was going to approach this tournament considering his previous history. However, with Carlos Alcaraz suffering a shock opening loss to Cameron Norrie, Sinner can now reclaim the No. 1 ranking if he wins the title, which could potentially alter his mindset towards the event. The Italian is coming off a title in Vienna last week, but he started heavily cramping for the second consecutive tournament, which is slightly concerning - especially in cooler indoor conditions.

It will be interesting to see Sinner's level in these early rounds. Bergs is having a career-best season, recently making the Shanghai Masters quarter-finals and has nothing to lose here. However, it's impossible to look past Sinner - he's won 21 consecutive matches indoors and if he's back to full fitness, it would be an even bigger shock than Alcaraz's defeat to Norrie if he lost this.

Head To Head

This will be the first career meeting between the pair.

Jannik Sinner Form

Sinner has registered a 48-6 record on the season, picking up four more titles and now has the chance to reclaim the No. 1 ranking from Alcaraz ahead of the ATP Finals, where the pair will again battle it out for the top spot.

The Italian added two more Grand Slam titles to his collection, successfully defending his Australian Open title before capturing his maiden Wimbledon crown.

However, there's been some heartbreaking defeats mixed in, most notably his five-set loss to Alcaraz in the French Open final, along with another loss to the Spaniard at the US Open.

That was part of a difficult period for Sinner, who also retired in the Cincinnati final and in the third round of the Shanghai Masters.

The 24-year-old bounced back strongly in Vienna last week, beating the likes of Flavio Cobolli, Alexander Bublik, Alex de Minaur and Alexander Zverev for the title.

Zizou Bergs Form

Bergs has put together a 30-25 record on the year, rising to a career-high ranking of No. 39 but still searching for that maiden ATP title.

The Belgian has come close on a couple of occasions in 2025, finishing runner-up in Auckland and st-Hertogenbosch, while he was also a semi-finalist in Marseille.

Bergs has been gradually improving all season and recently made the third round of the US Open before reaching a first Masters 1000 quarter-final in Shanghai, going down to Novak Djokovic.

The 26-year-old was fatigued from that tournament and lost in the opening round of Brussels to Davis Cup teammate Raphael Collignon before taking last week off to recover.

After making the second round of Paris on debut last year, Bergs is back at this stage after beating Alex Michelsen in three sets in the opening round.

Verdict

There's a slight concern over Sinner's fitness, but at the end of the day, he's on a 21-match winning streak indoors and now has a chance to reclaim the No. 1 ranking by winning the Paris title.

I'm backing the Italian to lock in and get the job done here with minimal fuss.
