It's actually strange to think that Sinner hasn't won a single Masters 1000 title in 2025, but he was suspended for three months earlier in the year and retired in the last two events in Cincinnati and Shanghai. Sinner's fitness has been a talking point over the last couple of months, but he continues to dominate for the most part, taking out the Vienna title last week and reaching his first Paris Masters quarter-final without dropping a set. Now, the Italian gets a favourable match-up to extend his run into the semi-finals.

Shelton has got the job done in Paris this week - he's built up some match practice after being sidelined with a shoulder injury and more importantly, secured his qualification into the ATP Finals for the first time. However, this is most likely where his tournament ends. Shelton has lost his last six meetings with Sinner and 15 consecutive sets during that period. With Sinner on a 23-match winning streak indoors, it's tough to see how the American can turn the tables in the French capital.

Sinner leads 6-1. Shelton won the first encounter at the 2023 Shanghai Masters, but Sinner has been dominant ever since, winning the last six meetings and 15 sets on the trot - including big victories at the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year.

Sinner has won 50 of his 56 matches so far in 2025 and heads into this clash on a 23-match winning streak indoors.

The Italian picked up two more Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, but he's still searching for his first Masters 1000 trophy of 2025.

It was a difficult period for Sinner after Wimbledon - he retired ill against rival Carlos Alcaraz in the Cincinnati final and was subsequently outclassed by the Spaniard for the US Open title.

Sinner bounced back to prevail in Beijing, but was again forced to retire in Shanghai. However, it was a minor setback as the 24-year-old took out the Six Kings Slam before capturing his 22nd career title in Vienna last week.

It's been smooth sailing so far in Paris, with Sinner defeating Zizou Bergs and Francisco Cerundolo in straight sets to make the quarter-finals for the first time. Sinner will reclaim the No. 1 ranking from Alcaraz if he takes out the title.

Shelton heads into this clash with a 40-20 record on the season, rising to a career-high No. 6 in the world and qualifying for the ATP Finals for the first time.

Consistently peaking for the big events, Shelton made the semi-finals of the Australian Open and quarter-finals of Wimbledon, where it took Sinner to eliminate him from both.

The American took advantage of Sinner and Alcaraz's absence in Toronto, winning his first Masters 1000 title by beating Karen Khachanov in the final.

It was looking like Shelton was a genuine shot at the US Open title a few weeks later, but he was cruelly forced to retire with a shoulder injury.

It's been a slow comeback, but Shelton has returned to some good tennis this week in Paris, defeating Flavio Cobolli and Andrey Rublev in straight sets to make the quarter-finals.
