Consistency, consistency, consistency. That's been the motto for De Minaur over the last couple of seasons and it's elevated him into the top 10 and on the cusp of qualifying for the ATP Finals for the second successive season. For perspective, de Minaur is only the fourth man since 2016 to have reached at least the R16 of at least eight of the season's nine Masters 1000 events, joining Milos Raonic, Rafael Nadal and Alexander Zverev.

De Minaur showcased his resilience and competitiveness in his Paris opener, recovering from 0-5 down in the first set tiebreak to edge out Gabriel Diallo. Meanwhile, Khachanov took care of a fatigued Joao Fonseca as the Russian looks to continue his love affair with the Paris Masters - a tournament he won in 2018 and made the semi-finals last year. This should be a tight contest and Khachanov at his best can take the match out of de Minaur's hands. However, the Russian was on a five-match losing streak before Paris and he hasn't really looked convincing so far. De Minaur's superior match fitness could be the deciding factor here.

Head To Head

Khachanov leads 2-1. De Minaur won their first encounter at the 2020 US Open in five sets before Khachanov prevailed 6-3 6-7 7-5 in Dubai in 2022. Khachanov was a dominant 6-2 6-4 winner in the 2024 Vienna semi-finals in their most recent meeting.

Alex de Minaur Form

De Minaur heads into this clash with a 54-20 record on the season and a tour-leading 41 match wins on hardcourt, which has helped him maintain a spot inside the world's top 10.

Currently No. 7 in the rankings, de Minaur continues to toil away, winning his 10th career title in Washington, finishing runner-up in Rotterdam, making the semi-finals of Monte Carlo and quarter-finals at the Australian and US Opens.

The Aussie made the Vienna semi-finals for the second straight year last week, but ran into his nemesis Jannik Sinner, falling to the Italian for the 12th straight time.

On the brink of qualifying for the ATP Finals for the second straight year, De Minaur navigated a tricky challenge in his Paris opener, subduing the big-serving Gabriel Diallo 7-6(8), 4-6, 6-3 in two hours and 37 minutes, saving three set points in the opener.

Karen Khachanov Form

Khachanov comes into this contest with a 32-23 record on the season, but has fallen to No. 18 in the live rankings following a dip in form/fitness and with last year's Paris semi-final points dropping off.

The Russian was in tremendous form leading into the US Open, making the final of the Canada Masters before falling to Ben Shelton in a deciding set tiebreak. That result had followed a solid run to the Wimbledon quarter-finals.

However, Khachanov suffered a second round exit at the US Open and suddenly he was struggling, arriving in Paris on a five-match losing streaks after opening round eliminations at Beijing, Shanghai, Almaty and Vienna.

Returning to the scene of his lone Masters 1000 triumph from back in 2018, Khachanov is perhaps turning things around again in Paris - he eased past Ethan Quinn in the first round before taking out Basel champion Joao Fonseca in three.

Verdict

Khachanov is always a tough opponent and de Minaur has had his challenges against him multiple times before.

However, the big Russian isn't at his best right now. De Minaur will be going all out trying to confirm his Turin status, so I'm backing the Aussie to grind this one out in a tough win.
