It's a rematch of last year's Brisbane semi-final showdown, which Dimitrov won before the Bulgarian went on to secure the silverware.
Head To Head
Dimitrov leads 2-1. Thompson prevailed 7-5 7-5 in their first meeting at Miami 2019 before Dimitrov registered straight set victories at Indian Wells 2022 and Brisbane 2024.
Grigor Dimitrov Form
After a couple of relatively poor seasons, Dimitrov has recaptured some of his best tennis over the last 18 months or so, climbing his way back into the top 10.
Dimitrov started 2024 with a bang by claiming the Brisbane title, but he would have been supremely disappointed at a third round exit at the Australian Open against Nuno Borges.
The 33-year-old will be hoping to go deeper at Melbourne Park later this month, but first he has more business to take care of in Brisbane.
The Bulgarian has got his title defence off to a great start, defeating Yannik Hanfmann 7-6 6-3 in the opening round before toppling Aleksandar Vukic 6-2 7-6 to reach the last eight.
Jordan Thompson Form
Thompson is coming off the best year of his career at 30 years of age and the Aussie will be hoping to take the next leap towards the top 20 throughout 2025.
After languishing between 50-100 in the rankings for the majority of his career, Thompson stepped it up in 2024 and surged into the top 30, with his best results including winning a maiden ATP title in Los Cabos, finishing runner-up at Atlanta and reaching the fourth round of the US Open.
Thompson also made the semi-finals of Brisbane last season, conquering Rafael Nadal along the way before going down to his opponent here.
The 30-year-old has already registered two impressive victories in returning to the Brisbane quarter-finals this week, coming from a set down to beat Matteo Berrettini before also staging a comeback against Alex Michelsen in the second round, recovering from 2-5 & 0-40 down to prevail 7-5 6-2.

Verdict
Thompson is a much-improved player and deserves a lot of respect for getting the most out of his game heading into his 30s.
However, I don't think this is a good match-up for him. Dimitrov won't make the same errors that Berrettini and Michelsen did - he's much more consistent and his slice will help him neutralise most of the rallies. Dimitrov has covered a -3.5 games line in both matches this week and his last two wins over Thompson and I'm backing him to do so again here.
